Another Wimbledon QF for Barbie ! :hearts:

Deserved win for Strycova. She was mentally stronger.
She never gave up. And I like her smart game with beautiful net attacks.

Elise totally froze at 6-4 5-2 :help:

Strong, consistent, confident tennis, quick moving, great backhand until then.
A big choke. She became sooo nervous at 6-4 5-2. She should have won this match.
Suddenly she stopped moving, serve got weaker, more UEs, too passive.

Strycova
33 Winners, 31 UEs
Mertens
29 Winners, 32 UEs

Always good day when pushers are sent packing. Mertens with her ultra dull tennis got to a set and 5-2 lead only to end up losing. Priceless...

She was destroying Strycova and cruising and then hurt her back. Shame, what a wasted opportunity.

All the haters and experts calling her fake, that her MTO was fake and it were all antics... PASS OFF. She was clearly deflated and hampered by something.

What an opportunity this match was for both players after the shit years they have both been having. Losing in this way will surely compound the pain (literally with her back, and obviously emotionally as well) for Mertens .

What an amazing moment for Strýcová though :bigclap:! She knows she's in the twilight of her career and now has achieved one of her career-best results. Always nice to see that!

Basically:

Mertens and failing to serve out a match, thus inviting her opponents back into the match and raising their confidence in the process - name a more iconic duo.
Mertens was up 64 52* then completely disappeared as Strycova put on a grass court clinic with those incessant net approaches. The MTO and those back rubs in the final set were also highly suspect from Mertens... maybe if you actually remembered how to get 4 big serves into the court and didn't relax instead, you wouldn't need to resort to gamesmanship or play long matches all the time... She may have been injured and in pain but the timing of it all is just so suspect and disappointing.

Strycova has a chance against Konta but will 100% lose to Kvitova in the QF if that's who she meets. Good luck :yeah:

Tough lesson for Elise. Basically had it in the bag.

Fun match to watch. Some awesome rallies and wow points.

QF line-up reads like an International so far. But great to see another very skilled grass courter coming through. I'm not her biggest fan because of her antics but she for sure is always entertaining  5 years after making the QF here she might face Kvitova again.

Such a sweet sweet result! :worship: I honestly didn't expect it from a set and 5-2 down. The quality wasn't consistent the whole way through but full credit to the 33 year old warrior for digging her heels in! This is either her last or second last Wimbledon and you could see how much it meant to her - she was crying on her knees at the end. :hysteric:

Plays Kvitova/Konta next. Her last (and only) slam QF was ended by Kvitova 5 years ago so I wouldn't expect much going further, but this is already a huge effort from the vet!!!
