Barbora Krejcikova Cheering Thread!

Barbora Krejcikova
DOB: Dec. 5, 1995

Barbora is a new star in the making. The 16 year-old, currently a Top 25 junior, just won her first singles pro title, at the 10K Dubrovnik, Croatia, as a qualifier!

She is also the holder of 4 doubles titles, including two this year!

I'm assuming she gets a WC into the second 10k Dubrovnik, and will see if she can follow-up her title!

I love seeing Barbora where she belongs - top 50, big tournaments,...
And the next question is, will she make it to the Olympic singles? (assuming they will really take place this year) Her general ranking is good enough already, but she needs to be in top 4 CZ ranking as well
If I read the situation correctly, she leads in the race for this fourth place by some 200 points over Marketa and Marie, and results in Rome & RG will decide it.
CZ only, Bára for half an hour in talk show.
Nothing really new, but quite enjoyble. Was talking about last year (RG 1, RG 2, OG 2), how hard it is to enjoy win (before it can sink in, you are at the next tournament and if you loose there...), about her tournament habits and rituals (And does it work? Partially... ), meeting idols in Paris, Jana Novotná (Bára was considering turning pro or going to University in that time), running of time. Bára is the charming shy type.

She sounded hopeful to be able to play in RG, but no details. Her elbow wasn't in any kind of cast or tape.

This year proved that they can be the very top doubles pair with very part time doubles schedule, and that Katka is flexible enough to play and win with other partners outside of GSs. So I'd hope that they can continue with this setup as long as it works.

Limiting number of matches will be hard. When Barbora is healthy and in form she just goes deep on any surface. Looking at the beginning of 2022: F Sydney, QF AO, doubles title AO, 1st round doubles Sydney...
Maybe she could've switch Sydney for some other prep tournament a week earlier, she doesn't have to play doubles before GS (but it was 1 match, it didn't have that much of an impact), but otherwise this is close to dream - and it means 15 matches.

Yes, if someone can make the Fila's hi-vis stripes look good, it is Bara.

Yastremska or Bondar in R2, Drova R3, Vekic or Aryna in R4. If Babs plays well she has wonderful chance to make QFs! Or even further hopefully!
Let's see how big word will Bara have in "will Sabalenka endanger IGA's nr1 position" question. Both play well and Bara isn't easy draw for either, so maybe we will get more Bara vs top3

I hate how Bara's success is framed as a problem for IGA.
For example here is a CZ article, not an interview/not saying anything new, mostly a summary of selected international quotes... The article isn't really bad, but the title and the beginning are so much IGA bashing, it is sooooo annoying.

Krejčíková destroys the aura of Šwiateková. Polish player won't want to see her anymore, the experts are amazed

Krejčíková ničí auru Šwiatekové. Polka ji už nebude chtít vidět, žasnou experti | Aktuálně.cz

I don't want a dull, angry, American-style rivalry. I want them to remain themselves, have fun with each other - and put the battle on when it comes to it on the court, preferably in the final. And they want that as well, training together and so on.
Why can't the personal respect be mirrored in the reporting?

If I could magically decide IW&M results, I'd actually wish to have them to meet twice, and for IGA to win one of those, probably the IW. I have Barbora on first place, but I don't want her to be known only as Iga slayer.

I like the zebra dress from 🔝
Barbora had shown back with Head that she can wear stripes, so she got more of them here :)

And, fingers crossed for the doubles SF, would be nice if they get another WTA title, just because they can.

Bára&Katka are in doubles draw in Miami.
However, Katka gave up her singles match today due to injury, so we will see whether they will really play.
Hope so, not sure who she would enter madrid and stuttgart with. Would be better to focus on singles and getting back into top 10
This leads to interesting question:
If we could wish whoever we wanted (from active players), who would be interesting once-off doubles partner for Babs?

My first ideas were Bencic or IGA, top players having fun in their days off.

I am not selecting anyone from stable pairings, it doesn't have the fun factor.

Another Czech - no reason to pick one specific player from her generation. The obvious would be playing one with Strycova in her farewell tour. I wouldn't be that surprised if it really happened (as some last minute repairing).

And from youngsters, I'd go with Bejlek. Supporting interesting junior, and continuing the chain of support she received.
Bejlek is from the same area, left-handed, small and fast, and getting a round or two at this level of tournament would be good for her.

Who would be your pick?

That looks like a loaded team. Vondy is my fave Czech player so happy to see her healthy enough to continue playing and Rome isn't mandatory so she can use SR to enter.
Loaded, universal and enjoying themselves.

They commented that the BJK week in Turkey works as a great training camp - great timing and conditions to shift for outdoor clay, accomodation 5 minutes from courts, two courts just for the two teams.
And it seems they have fun as a group as well, I saw some images of them playing futnet, having fun dinners and killing the captain in cards.

Really curious how the nomination will work. Maybe each top 100 player one singles match and Sara with someone for doubles? (Hmmm... My Bara&Sara once-off wish has a non-zero chance to happen :) )

so Babs fans? Heads over hearts.... what you think over what you want..

where do you think Babs finishes the year (YEC) ranked? It isn't just clay... until the 250/500 fall indoor swing fall she barely defends any results this year. .. including the YEC if she does indeed qualify for ...

for myself.. I'll retract my previous thoughts... I don't think Iga will finish the year at #1.. expected a linear improvement in her. Suspect this year for her will be somewhat like 2021 another adjustement year.. instead of adjusting to being a slam winner.. this one to the unique pressure as a face of the game #1... however 2024 for her might well be 2022 dominance but on steroids. Easy to forget how young she really is and still years away from maturing and peaking as a player..

but this year.. not just hope.. but think it will be Babs...
Given Babs doesn't defend anything at all, I'd expect top 10 during clay (would be great to get top 8 seeding for RG), top 5 before hard season and for Babs to get into YEC singles as a rather conservative guess. Plus another 2 titles at least.

I'd love to see her even higher, but the proposed plan would allow for some random early exits and some rest from time to time.

would be epic if it could happen! I would be so happy to see either of my faves win   :cheer::cheer:

what would you say was your favourite babs match?
Ostrava!!!
(Final with IGA). It had an additional value of both players playing with "at home" crowd.

Usually it's the same 2 players that play all singles matches. They need their best players, Ukraine isn't an easy opponent: last year they tied the singles against the USA, this year they also have Kostyuk.
If they win 3-0, Sara and Linda should play the doubles, unless Linda leaves them early... :D
Many teams change the nomination for the second day, they just have to keep the ranking order. If things would go well on day1, I'd expect complete switch for day two.
And Babs added her first singles win. She looked more nervous than in WTA 1000 final, but made in two sets.
So

They could've fielded Muchova or Noskova instead of Krejcikova on day 1, but they need Babs against Kostyuk. :D
Afaik they didn't know whether first day will be ones against ones and twos against twos, or cross one.

Anyway, especially with this result, I do expect some change for tomorrow.
Babs will be wearing the new Fila collection in Paris

I like the new dress.

Yes, pink with zebra is special, but the blue one from new collection is somehow more relatable.
