Ash is truly the #1 the WTA needs. Just so consistent and beating opponents she needs to beat routinely. Reminiscent of how top seeds used to tear through the early rounds at the slams. Just fantastic. Her game is getting more and more complete, her slices have more bite on them and her serve is just awesome, as usual.

Bronzetti tried, but just had no answers to Barty's slice. Just joins the club of players who have absolutely no idea how to deal with it as well, no shame in that. She's still very young, so hopefully she can take the experience from this going forward. Good to see her enjoying herself though, I don't think she was overwhelmed by the occasion, just more her game is too lightweight to compete against the Bartys of the tour.

Giorgi next, but Ash seems to be playing extremely well so that should be a rout as well.

Barty is sure playing like the dominant #1 right now....Osaka, you really are in danger girl...that is if she even gets past the 3rd round...if Osaka is the "new Serena" like some people think, Barty is the "new Henin"...something about the way Barty plays reminds me a lot of Justine...

This is true in tour events, but not in Slams, where her results have been underwhelming for a #1.

QF-W-R4-R4 in 2019 and QF-R2-W-R3 in 2021 with losses to Riske, Wang, Muchova, Linette, Rogers and Kenin isn’t that impressive tbh.

But outside the Slams, she has been very solid and reliable so I hope she can start piling up on Slam QF/SFs.

Solid win vs a very dangerous opponent.

Barty has definitely been a better #1 than most of the other #1's in last 7-8 years outside Serena (Ash has had excellent consistency at WTA tour level events) but she has still underachieved in slams...She only has reached 1 GS final since she became No1 back in June 2019. She choked away lot of good opportunities in slams during this time.

Really good match from Ash again, she has been playing very well throughout the Aussie Swing, and really is playing like a world no.1 these days. One thing that has been great for Ash is the fact she has improved her second sets, and doing much better at keeping the same level throughout her matches, and not having second set lapses like previously. Great to see her playing and looking forward to her match against Giorgi. Good effort from Bronzetti, this will be a good experience for her and hopefully give her confidence to continue to build her game for more WTA events.

Check out the results as #1 for the six immediate previous number ones (Osaka, Halep, Wozniacki, Muguruza, Pliskova, Kerber) and you might reconsider.

edit: you also forgot a SF, yet counted the loss....
