Lleyton Hewitt overcame a second set lapse to defeat Roger Federer 63,06,64on Sunday and clinch a round-robin win for Australia over the Suisse at the Hopman Cup Team Tennis Tournament.

Alicia Molik gave Australia a 1-0 lead with a 63,64 win over Miroslava Vavrinec. Molik and Hewittlater combined to beat the Swiss pair 63,61 in the mixed doubles to give Australia a 3-0 win. The matches were played before a Hopman Cup record crowd of 8,486 indoorsat Burswood Dome.

In other action Sunday, Spain Defeated Argentina 2-1.Veteran Aranta S-Vicario beat Paola Suarez 62,63 and Tommy Robredo downed Mariano Zabaleta 46,62,63 in singles to cement the win. Suarez and Zabaleta beat Vicario and Robredo 64,57,76(5) in mixed doubles.

Zabaleta 23,agreed to replace countryman Guillermo Coria, who was suspened until March by the ATP after testing postive to the banneds steroid Nandrolone.

Hewitt,20 appearing in his first Hopman Cup, won his first twelve service points and then broke Federer in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead in the first set. Hewitt, the worlds top ranked men 1/8's player, then traded service games to take the first set.

Federer,20, dominated the second set before Hewitt fought back to win the third.
