I know I shouldn't be saying this being a Brit and all, but ... In the top 10 don't you think Henman is the least talented player there?

Well maybe Yevgeny, but I feel Wimbledon makes his position so high.

Ferrero's goals this year were to end the year in the top 5, and ply the masters cup
I'm glad he was able to accomplish both of those goals, and finish the year off with a masters cup semi-final. (especially considering his DREADFUL indoor season leading up to it!)

Hope that next year can be even better

Not a bad season for my faves....

#2 Kuerten
#7 Rafter
#10 Sampras (but take away the US Open pts and he'd be way down)
#14 Canas (v. good year!)
#19 Moya

Henman may not be the most talented of the bunch but u gotta hand it to him...he has consistently been ranked around the top 10 now for around 5 years!

Kafelnikov is Mr.Consistency! He is always ranked around that position! Another good year.

Yevgeny has all the shots that any player could possibly want , 2 good wings , returns , volleys .

only his serve lets him down.

great to see Moya back he just needs a good AUS OPEN (4r min) then he will be in contention for seeding spots in the Masters , he hasnt had any luck in the draws in past 2 years.

veryborednow: I'm also a brit who thinks Henmans position is not directly in proportion to his talent (OK, I'm pissed cause Federer ended up having a very disappointing year, aside from winning his first tournament).

However in Tim's defence, when he plays well (even discounting Wimbledon), he does play very well.

Tommy Haas still promises much but delivers (relatively) little when it really counts too.

Tim is still the only top 10 player never to have won a Masters or a SLAM ( on this list)

His Slam record apart from Wimbledon is very poor for a person ranked aroud top 10 for last 5 years.

Tommy Haas since he got back with his original coach has gone from strength to strength.

I don't know why Yevgeny doesn't work harder on his serve. He is tall, he can generate alot more power than he does on his serve. He can also use his legs too, which he hardly does.

its too late for him now at 27, he should have done it long ago.

when it works his serve is pretty fluent but it can be alot better.

TBE, I agree Tommy has been looking very good, but I don't think his achievements match up to his talent. Maybe next year, but people have been saying this for past 3 years at least! But I think (hope) that 2002 will be different.

Henman's slightly different cause his Slam performance is worse than Rusedski, and yet, even though I don't like him, when he plays well he does look really good.

He just has practically no consistency or reliablity off the ground unless he's on fire. And that's rare.

Next year, watch out for Andreas, Xavier, and Mikhail to make some noise in the top 20. Go guys!!!!!

Yevgeny not doing much on his serve is a clear choice. Not putting much of back or footwork into the serve is one of the biggest reason he has never had a tennis-related injury. Hard serving and single-hander backhand are two biggest sources of injuries in tennis.

OK, he's talented, but he plays a hell of a lot more matches than the others, right?
So I was thinking, his position is going to be distorted in relation to talent than the others. Or am I way of the mark here? I have no idea what I'm talking about.
