Just wondering who everyone thought would win the awards for 2001.
Player of the year is a lock, cause they always give it to the player who ends the year number one, which was Hewitt.

Otherwise, there is :

Rookie of the Year (or whatever they call it?): Lets be honest...love him or hate him, it would be a complete disgrace if Roddick didn't win this. Three titles, wins over top players, and he ended the year in the top 20. No one else comes close.

Most Improved: alright.... I don't really have any idea. Ferrero has improved his ranking 8 places, and didn't win any titles last year. However, I don't know where Grosjean was last year? Was he top 20? If not, then maybe Grosjean? Or what about Goran? I'm sure there is someone obvious I'm overlooking? Mrnyi maybe?

Comeback player: does Goran qualify as a comeback player? If so, he's a lock. If not, then I have no idea

Stephen Edberg Award: I'll say Rafter, seeing as he alreayd has a good collection of these.

What other awards do they give out?

Most improved should go to Juan Carlos or Sebastien Grosjean.

Edberg award between Rafter, Corretja, or Kuerten. They are always up for the award.

Player of the Year - duh

Most Improved Player - you did very well to say ferrero/mirnyi becca! mirnyi beat guga on clay for heavens sake, mirnyis worst surface by far...gugas best! and plus severl other high quailty wins and results. well, he did only actually go up from about 42 last year, down to 53 or so, and back up to 30 and finally 34. so only a 10 or so place improvement. but deffinately more mature and everything than ever in his style of play and stuff.
id like to see ferrero win this though!

Doubles Team of the Year - stole/mirnyi

Comeback Player of the Year - goran, duh

Newcomer of the Year - corea

Fans' Favourite - Gustavo Kuerten

nej: I'm pretty sure the doubles team of the year automatically goes to the team that won the race. Which in this case, was Bjorkman and Woodbridge.

There are a few candidates for new comer of the year, like Coria, Roberedo, etc. But Roddick came from no where to win three titles and end the year in the top 15. He won more titles, had more qualityEven those who hate him, have to admit it would be a total disgrace if he didn't get it.

comeback .... is between Guillermo Canas who started year outside top 200 and Goran .

I'd go for Goran for winning a SLAM

Roddick will take it.

Comeback of the year: I'm rooting for Guillermo Cañas, but I think that Goran is more known by people and i guess that counts.

Newcomer: it won't be for Guillermo Coria, since he missed the last part of the year and he didn't have good performances at the Slams. Roddick has a 90% of chances of winning it.

The Next Sabatin: Its unfortunate, because the place Coria was most likely to do well - Roland Garros- pitted him against Guga in the first round I'm sure he'll do much better there next year.

Regardless...as I said before.. Roddick started the year out of the top 100, and ended it in the top 15.
He won three titles, and had big wins over top players, as well as respectable slam showings.

Again... there hasn't been another newcomer this year who was as impressive.

Or as irritating! LMAO! Guillermo definitely had a great year, but fizzled right after losing to Guga at French!

Player of the Year - It will be Hewitt because of being #1
Most Improved Player - Probably Ferrero, Grosjean or Federer
Comeback Player of the Year - It just has to be Goran
Newcomer of the Year - As much as I don't want to say this, it probably should be Roddick

Guillermo did have a slump after losing to Guga in RG, since everyone expected him to cause some upsets. After that, he lost in several 1st rounds, then reached semifinals in Kitzbuhel, losing to Costa, and he had already traveled to New York, but he fell while he was practising and injured his leg.
He had to skip the US, and he could have played some indoor tournaments, or maybe a few challengers of the Ericsson Coup to catch up a little bit (he also lost a lot of ranking there, because he had to defend 5 challenger tournaments in a row), but he prefered to stay in Buenos Aires, training, in order to be a 100% fit for the 2002 season. He'll start with the Hopman Cup, and then he'll go to Australia.
And by the way, I hate Roddick.
