I feel for Tennis Australia as they poured a lot of money into this girl over the years. Not to mention all the WC's she received.

Tennis Australia really funded that girl's career.
Still, it has to be easier to quit when you didn't waste your own money.

There's probably a lot of WTA players that wanted to quit at some point but when your dad dropped his job ten years ago to coach you and your parents have a mortgage on their house to help your career, it is a lot tougher to quit and go work at a local tennis club

I don't feel bad for Barty. She played the system, got tens of thousands of dollars handed to her via WC by the time she was 18 (someone should calculate exactly how much) despite never playing a full pro schedule, money she's now able to invest and live off while doing something she actually enjoys. I presume she knows how much she could have earned and it doesn't bother her.

I don't feel bad for Tennis Australia because the Slam nations clubbing together to hog the most lucrative WCs for their own scrub players is one of the least edifying sights in tennis. Funding juniors is always a risk - parents and national associations should always understand this.

I do feel bad for whichever players were denied Slam pay cheques as Barty was parachuted in over them time and time again.

Props for doing what she wants but no way will cricket by as financially lucrative for her. She made 3 GS doubles finals in 2013, she could have just went doubles specialist and would have had a nice career probably.

And yes she got far too many WCs but that's unfortunately the way with the slam nations, their local scrubs picking up R128 pay cheques for nothing.
