Basically the article is saying that she was really focussed and training a lot for this tourney. As soon as she arrived she had a long and intense 2 hours practice session and she basically had to be escorted off the court by Safarova :haha:

She said that she has 4 tourneys scheduled for the next 4 weeks :rolleyes: and that she believes that she has enough strength left for that. That she doesn't keep count of the tourneys that she plays, she just shows up and plays and that she needs to be on the court as she enjoys it.

I was at Aryna's match in Quebec and in my opinion fatigue was not an issue here. I think the outcome was the result of a combination of factors, among which:

- struggling to adapt to a surface on which she had never played before; a surface that plays quite differently from the hard courts she's used to and requires significant adjustments;
- facing an opponent that, unlike her, has been a regular participant in this tournament for over a decade, is comfortable on the surface, and is a leftie;
- being more nervous than usual as a result of being the top seed at a WTA tournament for the first time in her career and being treated as such by local media, therefore feeling additional pressure to perform.

Aryna took this match seriously, and although she played quite poorly at times and was becoming quite frustrated with her return game in particular, she never gave up and fought until the end. I've said it before, but tanking matches is not in her nature.

The first match in any tournament is always tricky. Aryna was two points away from taking it to a third set, and considering her recent three-set record I would have been pretty confident in her chances of winning a decider. I also think she would have played better in her second match.
