What with there being a few threads about players in the top 10 not really doing very well, its made me wanna write this thread.

With the top 6 or 7 players in the world being very dominant, its always them in the QF's SF's an d F's in all the big events.... if a few of the top players play each event, you can basically say that a QF is the best you can hope for, even if you're ranked 10 in the world.

It strikes me that Daniela and Myskina especially don't seem to be setting the world on fire with their results, but they're still holding on in the top 10.

Does the domination of the very elite players mean you don't need as good results as u used to, to get into the top 10? I may be hyping this up in my head, but when players like Huber, Halard-D, Schett and Testud were hovering in the top 10 a few years ago they had 10 or 12 QF finishes in their results, whereas now 1 or 2 decent results will keep you there or thereabouts, as the top top players are ALWAYS getting the big points and its slim pickings for everyone else.

Hmmm actually have to eat my words here: Dani currently has 13 results QF or better, but 8 of those being from 2003. Shame only 1 is a final (Filderstadt) and two are semis (Linz and Antwerp).

13 is good enough though IMHO. If fewer of them were gotten by not getting byes in the first round that would be better tho. Winning 1 match and receiving QF points does seem a bit of a crock.

These top tenners don't have the results of others in the past. The top ten is very top heavy with the points.

Here is the top ten from April 22nd 2002:

1 Venus Williams USA 4669
2 Jennifer Capriati USA 4553
3 Kim Clijsters Belgium 3421
4 Martina Hingis Switzerland 3375
5 Serena Williams USA 3363
6 Monica Seles USA 3360
7 Lindsay Davenport USA 3350
8 Justine Henin Belgium 3133
9 Jelena Dokic Yugoslavia 3086
10 Amelie Mauresmo France 2252

9 of 10 players had 3000 or more points.

Nastya has 9 QF or better results, 2 of them being from 2002. However those 2 are her best and 3rd best points hauls. Also, 2 of the QF's were from tier 3's, giving her 31 and 39 points respectively, i.e her 2nd round loss at RG was worth just as much.

take off the 2 from last year and the 2 rubbish ones that 1 win at a grand slam will better and thats only 5 credible and recent QF or better results.

Those 6-10 pretty much suck. Waiting for Pierce to rebound into the top 10. Ai belongs there too.
