And Martina may be the last of the over 30's champs in quite a while. Navratilova, King, Chambers(40 plus when she made a Wimby final) played most matches on surfaces other than hard courts. Hard courts are murder on longevity. In the 70's and 80's the draws were littered with "old ladies" over 30. No more.
These days Tauziat is considered ancient.

P.S.
Who's the oldest woman in this years Aussie draw, Sanchez?

I think Coetzer is older.

Team sports are what sells, Volcana. People would get bored if he talked about Merlene Ottey. Besides, what does it matter. It's still Barry Bonds murdering baseballs, the other 20 guys on the roster aren't doing it for him.

"Hard courts are murder on longevity."

I cannot agree more. Unfortunately the tour is becoming more and more on hardcourts as well as carpet or indoor hardcourts :(

I really think that more tournaments should be allocated to clay and grass courts. I also think that we will see less players been injured that way.
