personally I find Anisimova non-descript and without a compelling character or story-line. It's obvious that her reps are trying to position her as the new iteration of the Sharapova-Kournikova money-making formula... i.e. take a blonde Russian ball-basher and sell her to the low-information American sports public as the hottest thing since sliced (white) bread... but i'm not sure this formula is still applicable.

I guess it's going to depend on her results. Having signed a huge deal like that before really achieving anything, Anisimova is going to have a big target on her back with all the other players, and with the Americans in particular. I'd love to see un-sponsored Taylor Townsend kick Anisimova's ass at a big tournie.

I don't get how can people deny white privilege which is the clear case here. Other girls had to win big to achieve such contracts, even sharapova had to get some slam wins but i am sure nike must have clauses of winning some slams to pay such money
Stop saying silly, unfounded shit like this. Coco Gauff was the biggest news in Wimbledon and saturated media tennis coverage for months and will be raking in a shit-load of money loooong before she turns 20, and she doesn't have any "white privilege". Justine Henin is a legend of the game who is probably the 2nd most successful player of the Serena era and her "white privilege" didn't exactly rocket her to superstar earning status. Venus at 17/18 years old signed the biggest apparel contract in tennis at the time, exceeding Sampras and Agassi and she didn't have "white privilege". Why are some of you so fucking obsessed with race?

Anisimova has a smooth game but wouldn't be surprised if she's not even as good as Yastremska.
I would. So far Amanda has better achievements in terms of Slam results and ranking while being younger. And she now has one of the best coaches.

Honestly that’s a bit of a slap in the face to Bianca... She’s the only current teenage slam champ, and the first one for quite some time... And it’s Anisimova that gets this deal... I don’t get it...

Honestly, Naomi should feel slighted with this as well...
Skinny and Blonde vs. Husky and Brunette. We all know what happens.

We will see. I like Anisimova's game, she takes the ball ridiculously early and with her size she can be a super beast. Yes she can win slams, multiple, but we will see how does she recover after her father dying. That is a lot on a kid so we gonna see.

Rooting for her definitely. She seems a nice girl, not ice queen or sarcasm queen at all at least so far so we gonna see. Plus she came up in SFLA so she's home team

That's actually both wrong and right. Because it IS NOT just about how you look. Looks get you in the door, but staying in the room is determined on WHAT YOU'VE DONE.

If it were only on looks, Fanny Stollar would be making millions per insta post.........

Oooooooh..... Fanny Stollar......if she could only win something...anything.
She just got knocked out in the 2nd round in Toronto by " Flipper" Flipkens.
-
Flipper is playing in the ITFs in both Toronto and Las Vegas( starts Monday).
Flipper ranked at #100 may be trying to secure a main draw position in the AO.
Bouchard is also scheduled to play in Lost Wages.
KooKoo Van once ranked #10 now #387 is playing in the Tyler Texas ITF. Trying to fight her way back into the WTA.

But Yastremska has the titles and on her day, can blow anyone off court. So there is no reason it would surprise me. I don't see anything in Anisimova's game that looks better other than her strokes looking "prettier".

Interesting development for Amanda. Lot of pressure to heap on her too. We'll see how she copes.

In terms of the detail let's bear in mind those articles don't really say very much. Australian Yahoo quotes 100 million (Australian dollars) and the original in the NY Post says USD 70 million - that is supposedly the total value of Sharapova's multi-year deal which is ending. It doesn't actually say how much money Amanda is getting, how many years the contract runs or whether there are performance clauses within it.

So basically we know nothing except she's now presumably rich.

Yup it is clear the author just made a quick Sharapova link .

yeah, because it's ok to be racist about whites, right?

I only hope Anisimova doesn't get derailed like Kournikova, another player with a lot more talent than most people will admit , who got distracted from the main game by the sideshows.

Nike would never offer such a deal to someone from Ukraine, get real

A lot of you are ignoring the fact that Nike desperately wants a new star from the United States. That’s where the money is like it or not. Amanda is probably their best bet. Kenin has ZERO star power no matter what she might win. Bellis is injured with a questionable future. Sloane and Maddie are inconsistent. Riske is not young. Collins is a no. Who’s left? Jennifer Brady?

Which U.S. player would you bet on if you were Nike?

Oh and I’m sure they will lure CoCo to Nike at some point. As someone already pointed out they hope that’s their new Serena and Sharapova. Lol!!!

<img src="https://www.tennisforum.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Laugh Out Loud" class="inlineimg" /> naomifandeeep probably didnt start watching tennis until 2018
I m watching it since 2008 but i know maria got deals after wimbledon win unlike this girl who has yet to win a big title which she can do infuture. She will only get this money when she wins something big. U brought my fave called her ugly indirectly, but my fave remains unbothered if u wanted to drag her and i have receipts if u want. Nike is already paying her 8 figure actually buddy. And countless other sponsors which will increase by olympics. So dont try to drag my fave again.
Atleast i like players for their game not looks unlike u
Denying amanda's privilege won't change the truth. From rich country and her privilege, she got the deal . Poc have to prove themseleves by winning to get such deals. Not amanda's fault but people denying it makes it lol worthy and their victim card when someone ppint out the obvious.
But u called poc player ugly. I know where your thinking can go. So nothing better can be expected from people u who plays victim card when people calls out the privilege

That's one great agent she has. But maria had the slams to back it up at amanda's age
Slam.
That made her a global star. Wimbledon 2004. Amanda is still unknown and there is no gurantee she will win slams. Though she is capable. Nike must have some clauses which include slams and rankings to pay such money. Right now representing america and her privilege landed her this deal. No 2 ways about it. Poc have to achieve big and slams to get such massive deals.

Someone should tell the WTA, NBA and many coorporations (including NIKE) that bend over to the Chinese, because that is where the money is. Still USA is a weird market since Americans care more about winning rather than the level of the sport or looking good. The market fell during the big3 era (only one in the world) because Americans suck and were irrelevant.

So Amanda looks good, looks promising but she is not a lock that she will be a top contender. It is a big gamble for NIKE but who cares. They keep profiting from bad investments and ugly outfits because the competition cannot do exactly that, gamble on a hot prospect and afford the loss in case they don't deliver. They also cannot afford them if they become too successful (see Djokovic & Sergio Tacchini).:(

Is it known how much money of it is guaranteed? Signing a conditional deal doesn't mean anything if we don't know what the conditions are...
