I know defensive types can trouble Maria. But Kim's 1st service percentage is too bad for her to have an easy win over Maria. I think if Mauresmo makes the final, she will win. She didn't have much trouble defeating Maria at the YEC 7-5, 6-3. She was also broken twice during that match. If Mauresmo can forget the #1 ranking is on the line, I favor her in the Miami final...

I know Mauresmo is a top player, but everytime she plays against a top player I predict her to lose, just because I don't consider her as a contender in the big matches. She has proven me wrong sometimes, but I'm still not convinced she'll ever win a Slam or on a regular basis beat the top players

Mauresmo can't forget the no. 1 ranking is on the line. Why would you ever think she could? If they meet in the finals, Maria will win just like Alicia, Lindsay and Elena did the last three times the no. 1 ranking was on the line for Mauresmo.

If maria turns out to be the most consistent and mentally tough of the big hitters the most likely people to beat her are the people who don't play thataway. Someone faster, smarter with variety and weapons might do better. Momo fits the bill as do Nastya and Kim. Thats what last year (up to and including the YEC) told us with the first two and we may get a chance to see with Kim. Maria's advantage is that Nastya can't currently get to late enough stages of tournaments and the other two havn't been in her way. Thats why Kim or momo in the final could be very interesting.

i have a funny feeling she might. if she gets to the final i can see her beating Maria as Amelie is actually a pretty great finals player (she just never gets there in GS).

Its funny, but Momo has really not been talked about much on this board or by the commentators although she is the top seed. Its like she is a darkhorse.

If I'm not mistaken, a majority of participants in this forum were polled and thought Venus would defeat Maria.

Anything can happen regardless who else makes it into the finals.
