Here's a category I keep hearing people put players into: The Top 5 Talent group (or TFT if you will)

so which players do you think (who currently reside outside the top 10) have the game to make it to top 5 in the world.

I realize this list will inherently have no objectivity in it but it will be interesting to see which players overlap between the lists of different fans regardless of who their faves are.

hantuchova is a definate imo. dokic is a possibility but i'm not sure about her. sharapova a possibility but to early to tell. vakulenko if she fixes a few things and gets more consistent she can, to put it this way she has very raw talent so once agaiin it is hard to tell. stevenson has top 5 talent but it doesn't look like she'll ever do anyhting about it. dementieva has the talent, bovina has the talent. and stosur is sort of a wildcard, i think she may have top 10 talent but i'm not sure about top 5 talent.

i know i have named a lot of players but here this, i'm not saying they'll all get to the top 5 some may fullfill their talent others may not. also for a few of the players i named i did say i wasn't sure so don't take it as if i'm saying they have what it takes.

btw, how are we measuring this because to me i base top 5 talent on the current top 5. i also believe a lot of players have the talent but won't all make it whereas as others think only 5 players can be in the top 5 so how can so many players have top 5 talent.

Patty Schnyder - Defintly

(Just look through the games at Charleston and Zurich and that will show you when Pattys on her game what she is capable of, simply amazing and extraordinary. Of course we know Patty hardly puts on her A Game (Kind of like once in a blue moon)

i think many players outside the top10 have the talent to make it to the top5
the question is just who is willing enough to work hard for it, and who is mental strong enough to reach
another factor is the health, few players have trouble with injuries.
but i think many players have talent to do it.

okay
here is my list

Lina K.
Zvonareva
Hantuchova
Sharapova
Kirilenko

why do people think so highly of haynes? i dont see how u can predict that she will be top 5 when she hasnt done too much in juniors or the pros..her game is crafty and talent wise hard to pull-off but uneed big weapons for top 5!

I saw Haynes play earlier this year at a challenger - she didn't impress me much, besides being a very good competitor. Her game is kind of gawky and choppy. But you know who i saw at the same tourny who DID impress me in terms of raw talent - Shenay Perry.

Patty has always been getting named whenever one of these threads come up. But she's almost 25 and she's been on the tour for 8, 9 years now. It's getting late in the game to put her in the same category with the up and coming young "untapped" talents. I'm not saying it's too late for Patty to turn it around, but the clock is definitely ticking.

To be perfectly honest....I don't see too many current players making it into the Top 5 any time soon (as long as Venus, Serena, Justine, Kim, Jennifer & Amelie continue to play). But for this thread's sake....these are the players who I think have the best chances of making it into the Top 5:
Nadia Petrova
Vera Zvonareva (as long as she can control her emotions)
Elena Bovina (as long as she remains consistent)
Iroda Tulyaganova (as long as she remains healthy)

I think it's a bit too early to tell concerning Sharapova, Kirilenko & Harkleroad.

Those who I would love to see in the Top 5 but don't think they have what it takes:
Ai Sugiyama
Lina Krasnoroutskaya

Daniela Hantuchova & Jelena Dokic have both been in the Top 5 but I don't see them ever returning to that position. I also think it's a bit too late for Patty Schnyder.
But who knows!

...the more I think about it (...which isn't much...) the more I realise I don't really know what 'talent' is...so this is just a list of people who could be in the top 5 if they were playing their best...

...Seles...Kuznetsova...Sharapova...Kirilenko...Lucic... :)
