I think that Top 10 junior player Aliona deserves an thread as well, she one of the most promising Spanish youngsters right along with Paula Badosa Gibert atm.She was Born in Moldova and moved to Spain when she was 3. Both her parents were Olympians for Moldova as well.

I agree that Aliona and Paula deserve to have a thread :D

Aliona has had some interesting results, let's hope she can continue improving

^ Agrees I hope Aliona can start moving back up in the WTA ranking next yr, she kinda fell off little bit in the ranking toward the end of the year

She beat Lumsden 7-5 6-4 in R1 :yeah: but got double-bagelled by Vera Lapko in R2 :eek: :rolls:

Oh Aliona :facepalm: she should be getting double bagel that for sure, hopefully she can keep it going in double & do better at the Junior Aussie Open

Not the easiest draw but it could be way worse. She "should" beat Dokic and, while the other players in her section could be dangerous, especially Aiava, she should get through it if she aspires to have a nice career though I don't know what her form is like after having been double bagelled at Traralgon.

Agreed she too good of an player IMo to be getting double bagel. I hope she start playing more ITF Pro event after the Aussie Open to start moving up the Wta ranking again

won her first round was down 0-4 in the first set and came back and won it in an tiebreaker

Sucks that she lost her QF match was really hoping she win an Junior slam. I hopin now through she focus more on building her Wta Ranking up & playing more ITF

Aliona is playing the Palmanova 10Ks atm: last week she made the QFs (beat (Q)Sandra Samir 4 & 2 in R1, and (7)Melanie Stokke, 3-6 6-2 6-4 in R2, before falling to the eventual champion (2)Amanda Carreras, 1-6 5-7 in QF); this week she's through to R2 after she beat (3)Irina Bara (WTA 419) 5-7 6-1 6-4 in R1 - she will face Katarina Jokic in R2 :bounce:
