Poor Jakupovic! She was up a set and fought back from 5-2 down in the second set, saving multiple set points. There were a large number of deuces in some of the last few games, so I guess the physical exertion + Melbourne conditions caused this :(

Something needs to be done ASAP about this tournament.

They obviously shouldn't be playing, poor decision from the organisers. The players health should be paramount. Would have been great to see the players band together at the start of the day and refuse to play.

The conditions are not safe. The players are struggling and can't put on a good competition. While they are having a hard time they are young and healthy.

What happens if some poor older spectator, linesperson or ball kid suffers respiratory distress and has a heart attack. That's on the tournament.

Seeing the full footage of Jakupovic's illness is heartbreaking.

Hypothetically if play does go on and the index for air quality is very bad, can one get a refund on their tickets?

That reminds me of an incident at les petits As 2 years ago.
A Canadian U14 Junior had what seemed to be an asthma attack
It seemed she was in real danger of shocking to death. Her mother kept asking for an ambulance but they wouldn't do it (n)

Drama

Are there no problems with the fire in Brisbane, Hobart and Adelaide???
Only in Melbourne (Aus Open venue)?

Geez, so ridiculous

Tennis organizers notorious for not putting player safety at the utmost, this is just not acceptable. The air is going to be shit apparently until Thursday, why not wait until then to start qualies? Tuesday is so early for qualies to start at a slam

mandy minella nailed it in her tweet, but because she is ranked about 150 in the world, it doesn't matter.

but if fed, rafa or serena had tweeted exactly the same message at exactly the same time, they wouldn't be playing, you can bet on it.
Of course, people care about federer's or serena's words more than minella's. And it's absolutely fine and understandable. Why are you saying it, like there is something wrong with it.

If the city of Melbourne is directing people to stay indoors and the tournament is choosing to ignore it, Jakupovic has legitimate grounds for a lawsuit here. What an unfortunate situation all around.
law suits are not as common nor as successful in Australia than other countries

Tomic on the ATP side as well complained to the umpire about having breathing problems apparently.

And the Genie match as well both players struggled with the conditions.

not at all, all players concerns should be looked at, not just the privileged few.
if this had been the second week of the slam, and fed, rafa, serena had been due to play at that time, they would have found a way to postpone it, due to poor air quality or something similar.
