That's about right. If someone cared to do the math, i'm sure the top ten women had a higher hourly rate than the men.

Yes, but in some instances, like the US open for example (which I believe has one of if not the largest viewing audience), the womens tv ratings score more viewers then the men. Which in reality sees more viewers seeing more advertisement. It goes beyond the simple number crunching of who's physically sitting in seats at a match or who's on the court for longer. It's who can earn more bucks for the tournament in the larger scheme of things.

In a business sense, woman are more marketable then men. The simple philosophy of "sex selling" will always prevail. Even the ATP acknowledge this, as they have used ball-woman (models) on several occasions. To further this, we have house hold names like the Williams sisters, Kournikova and Sharapova.

For a small tournament, tennis itself is used to assist their sponsors to advertise their products, and what better way to do it then using some attractive, athletic and successful woman to do it. Few men on the tour could sell a product effectively the same way a dozen names on the WTA could.

Well but the disparity is outrageous! In Sydney the payoff difference betweenn the winners was just 20000$ there was an article some days ago about women in 70s struggling to survive! They have same expenditures as men right? Is there any men tournament which gives as low payoff as Acapulco and still be tour event? :tape: And the field for this "premier" event for men sucks balls

The marketplace determines the prize money. I guarantee you that the women in Mexico are quite happy to play for their prize money vs. not having a tournament at all to play. If not, they would not be there.

Good point. The top women do not feel the difference but it is the lower ranked women for whom it becomes unfair, they work as hard, travel as far, have the same expenses etc

I printed out the prizemoney for the top 200 from 2008.
I'm going to compare it to 2009 after the season's over.
I expect 100-200 to be up at least 30%.
They have a lot more opportunity in singles and doubles with eight 2 week tournaments.

WTF are you on? :lol: Last year womens winner got 196000 while mens got 171000.. I dont see much disparity..:weirdo: its very surprising to see acapulco at the same week as Dubai for men! Waste of all this cash IMO :shrug: Instead they could have given women some more..

I know..I am just a bit furious after the article that was published by some pro who was around 70s and she just could not afford to play anymore!
