Maria Sharapova wasn't down and out after an early Australian Open exit, writes SI.com's Jon Wertheim. Instead she picked up a title.

Uhm...she was seeded #4 and got to the semifinals. That is NOT an early exit! I wish tennis fans would start writing tennis articles for major news organizations!

Well, if you think she's the best player on the tour, it WAS an early exit. :)

Making the semifinals of a grand slam is not losing early. Losing early would be losing 1st rd, 2nd rd, 3rd rd, 4th rd, Quarterinals......Maria should be proud of what she accomplished

Well, I suppose you are correct in that the media have annointed Maria the new Queen, so to them it WAS an early exit.
