Q: there has been talk that you are hitting the ball great and that your chances of getting back to the top of the rankings depends on how bad you want it. Do you agree?

Capriati: Yeah. that's everything for me. It determines how well I move on the court, and movement is a big part of my game. I can hit the shots. Your strokes never go away. It's just trying to regain everything else that goes around[ hitting the ball],like desire and fitness.

Q: How badly do you want it?

Capriati: A lot. I am really focused and determined to play well again.

Q: What do you think of the hype surrounding young players like Venus Williams and Anna Kournikova?

Capriati: It seems to me they like all the attention. They feed off it.

Q; Have you changed much since you first turned pro?

Capriati: I'd say my life's a little more in balance.

Jennifer knew she was capable of reaching the top even back then. I can't imagine that she was too shocked at her victory at the AO this year. It must have been mostly joy for having finally shown the world the stuff she's made of.

I wonder, however, just how badly she wants to stay at the top. She's already achieved #1, and she's been named sportswomen of the year. What else is there for her to do that is big enough to keep her motivated?

Sure, she doesn't have two of the four Grand Slams, but a grand slam is a grand slam. Plus no one in the Top 10 has all four either.

Thanks for posting the article here!!!

It's just so nice to see that Jen has achieved what she really wanted!!! Her determination and the amount of efforts in tennis have really been paid off!!!

Umm.... After she claimed the No.1 spot, sportswoman of the year award and 2 Grand Slam titles... what else will keep motivating her in tennis??? Well.... Wimbledon and US Open titles!!! I think she is looking for the US Open title so much, to achieve the Grand Slam title in her home country!!

All the best for Jennifer in her 2002 season!!!
