Early Clips until 1918

Wimbledon 1900

The first 3 seconds here contains the oldest film of female tennis players!

1915-May Sutton Bundy vs Molla Bjurstedt-the Sutton sisters

In Spanish. In 1914 Molla went to California for a series of exhibitions vs Bundy.

1919 and 1920

ELIZABETH RYAN

"Women's Tennis 1910-1919 is the British Pathe title, but the main feature here is Elizabeth Ryan. The date and local is most likely 1919 at Wimbledon-but there is no firm evidence for that. At 1:32 in the clip Ryan's unknown opponent comes into view.

Kitty McKane Godfree

"Women's Tennis 1920-1930" is the title, but the sole subject of this 1 and a half minute footage is of Kitty McKane. It MUST be at least 1920, as Kitty has a bandeau-a fashion made popular by Suzanne Lenglen.

Suzanne and King Gustav of Sweden play on the French Rivera in the early 1920s. Brief view of Eliazbeth Ryan. Only 6 seconds? Exact Date unknown.

Priceless footage of Molla Mallory here (from 2:48 til the end)

Probably England (clearly on grass and several international stars in clip)-a youngish looking Molla hints at a date of 1920 to 1922-but we have nothing solid to date it.

Tennis-1921

A priceless 2 and half minute film. Play on public court. Beamish demonstrates deadly underhanded serve at 2:21

World Hard Court Championships at Paris

Molla Mallory in stands smoking at .29, Lenglen in mixed, Molla again at end of clip. The title merely states "Tenis 1921", but this is without doubt the World Hard Court event.

Olympics in Paris-Helen Wills vs Diddie Vlasto-gold medal match

Wimbledon-1924

Silent. "The Incomparable Suzanne" at .54 watched by Queen Mary and King George. At 1:39 to 3: 15 Hazel Wightman, Helen Wills, and Kitty McKane for doubles final (Phyllis Covell is Kitty's partner)-very nice close ups at times of all four and dynamic net play. The rest of this rare 7 minute clip is devoted to the men.

1935

US Nationals at Forest Hills (Helen Jacobs vs Sarah Palfrey)

About 25 seconds of women's final at 1:00 after men's final. Turning the volume up high one can barely hear commentary. Jacobs slices forehand. Note the singles only court with no doubles lines.
