HENIN-HARDENNE DRIPS THE LIGHT FANTASTIC

Justine Henin-Hardenne was put on a drip for dehydration after overcoming home favourite Jennifer Capriati out of the US Open.

The Belgian was treated by medical staff after suffering from cramp towards the end of her 4-6 7-5 7-6 semi-final success.

The problem has cast a doubt over her fitness for Saturday night's final against compatriot Kim Clijsters at Flushing Meadow, scheduled to start at 8pm US time. The WTA Tour said that Henin-Hardenne's fitness will be re-evaluated closer to the showdown.

It took the number two seed three hours and three minutes to end Capriati's dream, leaving the American admitting that the defeat will 'stay with her for ever'.

The result stunned a partisan New York crowd, but Henin-Hardenne was delighted to have rubbed the Americans up the wrong way and remind them that women's tennis is not all about the Williams sisters.

"I think over here a lot of people don't even know where Belgium is," she said. "So this is a great way to create some attention."
