Which would you prefer?

You get 30 points in the MM and 40 in the 100k.

Birmingham is worse, as it is a 56 draw. You get 15 points for a first round there.

So, essentially you get the same amount of points for winning a match at a WTA event and by reaching the QF of a $25K challenger (14 points).

Anyway, challengers are really the only place for players outside the top 60(?) to earn most of their points. They can then add to their total by winning MD matches in the Slams. There are no points to be made in WTA qualifying rounds and International level events.

This. There is a horrid lack of proportion with the points given and the effort it requires to qualify (winning three whole matches).

This is exactly how players like Anastasiya Yakimova end up staying in the top 100 and playing at all the slams.
