"Marois, Srebrovic and Ko in main draw of Circuit Canada event

TORONTO (TC) – Three young stars of Tennis Canada’s “She Is” campaign will appear in the main draw of the first ever B C Decker Inc. Women's $25,000 Tournament June 8-15 at the Hamilton Tennis Club in Hamilton, Tennis Canada announced today.

Mélanie Marois of Ste-Foy, Que., Diana Srebrovic of Mississauga, Ont., and Beier Ko of Boca Raton, Fla., will all be seeded at the event, of which the Government of Canada is an associate sponsor.

Marois, 19, is the third seed. Ranked a career-high No.268 on the WTA Tour, the 11-time National junior champion is looking for her first title of the year after picking up her first two ITF titles last year. A quarter-finalist in both St. Petersburg and Coatzacoalcos in 2003, Marois also reached the doubles semifinals at the same events.

Srebrovic, 18, will be seeded fourth in Hamilton at No.308 on the WTA Tour. A quarter-finalist in Columbus this year, Srebrovic is seeking to capture her first-ever professional title. The nine-time National junior champion came close last year when she reached the finals of the $10,000 Circuit Canada Open de Montreal.

Ko, 16, won her first career ITF title at the Burlington Open one year ago. Seeded sixth, the top junior in the country posted the biggest win of her young career last summer when she defeated German Marlene Weingartner, No. 77 on the WTA Tour, in the first round of qualifying at the Rogers AT&T Cup. The six-time National junior champion was a quarter-finalist at the Junior Australian Open earlier this year.

Brazilian Maria-Fernanda Alves, No.260 on the WTA Tour, is the top seed in the event, while Germany’s Anna-Lena Groenefeld is seeded second. American Alyssa Cohen is seeded fifth. Aneta Soukup-Zahalka of Kitchener, Ont., Stéphanie Dubois of Laval, Que., Ioana Plesu of Quebec City, Montreal’s Erica Biro, Karin Ionesco of St-Bruno, Que., Ekaterina Shulaeva of Oakville, Ont., and Monika Dancevic of Niagara Falls, Ont., are the other Canadians in the main draw. Valérie Saillant of St-Lambert, Que., Montreal’s Mélanie Gloria and Eunice David of Mississauga, Ont., have received wildcards into the main draw. "
