We were late getting to the Greenville Tennis Center b/c I had under-estimated the duration of the trip by a whole 45 minutes. Also, we had an unplanned 15 minutes stop.
By the time we got there (we were only 30 minutes late), good old Kristen had already managed to lose the 1st set 0-6. She was serving at 1 all in the 2nd. There was a small crowd of 20 spectators or so, made of the tennis club members as well as USTA officials. People were just clapping politely after a good rally or a good point, but after Kristen got broken, I started voicing my encouragements: " Break her right back! Good point, girl! Good try!". I got a kick out of seeing her trying to look out of the corner of her eyes ( without turning her head) to see who the hell was cheering for her. The funny thing is that Edina's coach, John Gabriel, who was standing on the clubhouse balcony, right above of me, started encouraging her pupil also;-)
All in all, Edina was the better player. She's a small girl, very fit (you could see the muscle definition on her legs and arms) and very fast around the court. She was able to run many balls down while Kristen made loads of UEs. I was surprised to see that this tourney was being played on clay, green clay that is.
The 2nd set was very competitive. Kristen actually held a game point in that 3rd game, but was not able to hold and that was the difference.
I have taken quite a few pictures for all of you Kristen and Edina's fans out there;-) We'll see about asking Tombe to post a couple if he's interested.
