40 (Qualifying) + 2000 (Main Draw) = 2040.

She will lose points even if she defends her title next year.

EDIT: Apologies to TF for this strange OP for this GS final results thread. I opened a thread with the title "Raducano just won the most points ever in a single tournament" and the message above was the OP. It was not a results thread. It was not meant to discuss the 2021 US Open final vs Fernandez. It was a stat that I think stood on it's own for a fun discussion. It was merged with the results thread for some bizarre reason.

Raducanu has been absolutely fearless! Big congrats to her, her level, her nerves has been on another level. First title and it’s a GS title, refusing to believe how calm she was. Great final, the score doesn’t make any justice for a match 2 hours long. Fernandez had a great tournament, she showed her true colors at the end though!

The match even had some good drama at the end hehe.

As I said in the Live Results thread: Puig said that both WTA and ITF have an explicit rule about play needed to be stopped in case of bleeding - Velijovic was late at calling the MTO. Fernandez really shouldn't have gotten carried away with it (as Puig said), but probably it was just the nerves and inexperience taking hold of her.

Objectively, looking at the draw that both players had to win through, one had to admit that Fernandez had the more daunting challenge what with facing two Grand Slam champions in Osaka and Kerber and followed by two very competent opponents in Svitolina and Sabalenka. Yes, Raducanu had to slog through qualifying plus the regular draw but her challenges came late in Bencic and Sakkari and only Bencic put up a real fight. And yet…

First set:
Raducanu holds her first service.
Fernandez gets into 0-40 trouble, 15-40, 30-40, deuce, ad Raducanu, deuce, ad Fernandez, deuce, ad Raducanu, deuce, ad Fernandez, deuce, ad Fernandez, deuce, ad Raducanu and she breaks through for the 2-0 lead. 30-40 on Raducanu, deuce, ad Fernandez, deuce, ad Fernandez, deuce, ad Fernandez on Raducanu DF and Fernandez breaks back (2-1 Raducanu). Leylah gives up two points on serve but holds and levels at 2-all. Emma does the same and it’s 3-2 Raducanu. 3-3, 4-3 Raducanu, deuce on Fernandez, ad Fernandez and it’s 4-4. 5-4 Raducanu. 15-40 on Fernandez; 30-40 on a long Raducanu error, deuce, ad Raducanu on a long Fernandez forehand. deuce on a netted backhand by Raducanu, ad Raducanu and Emma drives a solid forehand up the line for the set winner: 7-5 Raducanu.

Second set:
Emma holds to start but Leylah gets into 0-40 adversity again; 15-40; 30-40, deuce, ad Fernandez and she holds with a heavy first serve. (1-1). 15-40 on Raducanu, 30-40, deuce, ad Raducanu, deuce, ad Fernandez on a sharp forehand and Leylah breaks through again (2-1 Fernandez); 30-40 on Fernandez and Emma breaks right back with a crosscourt winner (2-2). Raducanu builds to a 3-2 lead. 15-40 on Leylah; 30-40 and when Leylah comes to net behind her serve Emma passes her with a clean winner: 4-2 Raducanu. Firmly in the driver's seat, Emma gets one step closer to glory with a hold and a 5-2 lead. Leylah's serve goes to the 30-40 pits; deuce, ad Fernandez, deuce; ad Raducanu; deuce, ad Fernandez on a ripper forehand up the line, and Leylah holds on a netted Raducanu shot (5-3 Raducanu). 30-40 on Raducanu (and Emma has to pause to get her left knee attended to.. scraped and bleeding after sliding along the hardcourt); play resumes and...deuce; ad Fernandez; deuce, ad Raducanu and... game set match Raducanu.

Brittania rules!
The teens gave us a good show and both had utterly fantastic runs across the tournament. And in the end...
