She just smashed Sloane Stephens! Where did that come from? I know Sloane can go off the boil easily but that was an exceptional performance. Maybe things are clicking again. Hopefully she can get another win and defend all her points from last year.

Congrats Andrea! She suffered some painful losses against Stephens in 2013 (especially the one at Wimbledon back then) so really great to see her finally beating Stephens again :cheer:

I really liked her serve in yesterday's match. Her ball toss seemed to be all over the place and Ivanovic-like but it had more pace on it and the second serve was more reliable.

Wow, she missed out on 3 BP to go up 5-2, went down 4-5 instead and later lost a 5-2 lead in the TB, saved 3 MPs and won in the end.
Impressive stuff.

Beat Bencic for the first time 6-3 2-6 7-6(8)

Two big wins in a row, it's been such a long time

Once again a very composed and concentrated performance by her. Bencic might not have been at her best today but Andrea stayed calm, was extremely steady, moved well, was bending her knees well and got the job done!

Putintseva/Kuznetsova next, tough opponents who are showing some good tennis this week as well.

Andrea into Washington SF ! :)

Washington is clearly her best tournament.
No idea why she always plays her best tennis there.
In Washington scheint Andrea extra-motiviert und da klappt immer alles/vieles.

Petko retired against Puig at the New Haven qualies. Anyone know what happened? Hope she's okay and it's not too serious

Official reason is a left thigh injury. But I don’t know how serious it is. She was trailing 6-7 (4) 1-1.

She is happy in NY with Stubbs again, so I don't think there is something to worry. Probably too much drama as always...

Andrea Petkovic - Jelena Ostapenko 4:6, 6:4, 5:7
Fazit: Gekämpft, hingefallen, aufgestanden, wieder gefallen und aufgestanden und doch verloren. Rein vom Arbeitszeugnis her kann man Andrea Petkovic heute absolut keinen Vorwurf machen.

Petkovic d Lizette Cabrera (WTA 164) 1-6 6-3 6-3

Lost the first set quickly but fighted back - against an Aussie who is stagnating for months.

Yafan Wang (WTA 76) next.

Scoreline was 6-4 7-6 (5). But she made tons of UE and converted only 3 of 16 BP.
GL against Lapko!
