I haven't got them in specific order and thats crucial regarding the Gold Exempt Player Rule.

The top 16 ranked players after the 2001 US Open will receive a Gold Exempt Player Status for the 2002 season ( discounting retirements)

Hingis
Capriati
Davenport
Williams V
Clijsters
Mauresmo
Williams S
Henin
Seles
Shaughnessy
Dokic
Coetzer
Maleeva
Dementieva
Farina-Elia
Testud

4 Wild Cards will be nominated by Worldwide Tournament Directors only.

A Player must be ranked in the Top 50 singles of the singles rankings immediately following the previous years US Open in order to be considered for Gold Exempt status the following year

So from that I take it the four could be
1-Kournikova
2-Pierce
3-Martinez
4-???????
2001 Player List had Serena & Venus at #3 on the Gold Exempt Player List ( total of 21 players)

1. Hingis
2. Davenport
3. Co- Williams V
3. Co- Williams S
4. Kournikova
5. Pierce
6. Seles *
7. Martinez
8. Tauziat
9. Sanchez-Vicario
10. Huber
11. Capriati
12. Testud
13. Coetzer
14. Mauresmo
15. Rubin
16. Dementieva
17. Dokic-WC
18. Schett-WC
19. Sugiyama-WC
20. Clijsters-WC

 For Tournaments in Germany , Seles is removed from the list and all players move up one spot.

this may sound like a stupid question but what does it mean if you are in the gold exempt player list?

You are allowed as many WC's as you like in that year.

the next 30 players on the list are Silver Exempt Players and they are allowed 7 WC in the year in singles/doubles and they are allowed just 5 of those 7 in MainDraws.

I have a FULL GOLD EXEMPT RULING if anyone wants it.

But surely these players are unlikely to need many wildcards anyway, only for last minute additions to their schedule.

Bonus Pool money is linked directly to the Gold Exempt Listing.
So thats why Capriati even though she finished at #2 got only a small amount

Gold Listing
#1- $400,000
#2- $400,000
co#3- $350,000
#4- $250,000
#5/6- $150,000
#7-#10- $100,000
#11-#13- $50,000
#14-20- $21,000

Silver List 21-50 $3,000

These totals are the maximum they can get and any withdrawals from events leads to a deduction in Bonus Pool Money.

Why is it after the US OPEN 2001 and not the 2001 year end rankings? Seems strange that to me unless there's some specific reason they dod it that way.

Surely Arantxa will get a wild card for the gold list I mean c'mon LOL! Arantxa is so popular she really draws a crowd.

Kournikova will get a wild card cos she is oggled over by men worldwide and I *think* she sometimes plays tennis aswell which can only help her !

Mary Pierce...? Two words for ya, puh-lease!!!!

The bonus money is weird. The system means a silver player could play a fantastic year, end the year at #1 or #2 and get a bonus payment of $3,000. She could then play all her events the following year, but not win a single match and still get a bonus payment of $400,000, even though she would be ranked outside the Top 100!!!

It's the same system is ATP with much more money.

Marat Safin as he finished #2 on ATP in 2000 got $1.5M for just playing in every Masters Series , he even played while injured or else his bonuses would have done down dramatically.

Marti at least got $400,000!

TheBoiledEgg, where do you find all those info? ITF's site? I'd be very happy if you told me where to find all those rules of Women's tennis, etc...

I'm not sure I follow you on this one....
Is a Gold Exempt Player similar to/used in conjunction with the wildcard?
Does this mean that Pierce and say Kournikova have unlimited wild card entries or do they have 7?

Pierce and Anna may or should receive one of the 4 WC allocated for GOLD EXEMPT PLAYERS ( but they have to be in top 50 in the year prior to these given out... see above ruling)
I get this info from my source ...... pretty good one too.

ITF has its own rules of Tennis but WTA has its own ruling for its tournaments regarding Players.

Players that are full time members of the WTA Tour do not have to pay $150 for each time they enter a WTA event ( there are 300 such members and they are at the top end of the bracket).

Can you post the ruling on here TBE, I am interested to see it (I don't want to give my email address)
BTW has this changed from this year, becuase I thought that a gold exempt player was only allowed 6??

Anyway good news for Anna (of course assuming she will get one of the remaining 4 gold exempt players) which IMO is a certainly anyway..

As for Mary.. she was not ranked inside the top 50 after the US open??? will that mean she will not get one???

Mary was ranked inside top 50 of last years US OPEN

To receive one of the 4 Wildcards for Gold Exempt List:

A Player must be ranked in the Top 50 singles of the singles rankings immediately following the previous years US Open in order to be considered for Gold Exempt status the following year
Ajayares : I'll send you the details by email as its very long.

Just give us your email , if you don't wanna post your email on here just send your email addy over to me by PM or email.

Ok, so we are talking about the rankings after the US open 2000 for consideration for the 2002 season gold exempt list..

But have the rules changed from 2001 to 2002 in regards to the # of wildcards??

no ajayares, they use the top 16 players after US Open 2001. but for WC purposes they can use any of top 50 ranked players that were ranked in top 50 after US Open 2000 ( for Injury purposes)

It should still be 4 WC. There are 21 Gold Exempt Players ( 20 being norm but Seles is discounted for German events)

Ok, that's not what I mean't, in regards to the 4 available wildcards..

But when i say changed the # of wildcards, I was refering to those who are given gold exemption..

Once you recieve the gold exemption did you get an unlimited amount of wildcards into events?? in 2001 you were only allowed 6 I think???, have they changed that now??

BTW thanks again for the rules on gold exempt players.. very interesting read..
