Just a progress report - motivated by wanting to keep the thread on the active pages:

Ugarte's post 1-70 have been edited in with additional first names and nationalities where I had them. It's been a help, Miguel, that you are adopting our convention of given names first and surnames second. Thanks always for all your work in collecting these results

All of Ugarte's results have been edited in as well as the remaining results from the original thread. (Miguel - I think you said you have some more Riviera results and the Wimbledon plate yet to do). I will go back through and add some additional doubles.

I won't trouble you each time I add doubles results, but today also added additional rounds of the New Zealand champs (Jan) the Hilversum final (Jul) and the Wimbledon plate

Beryl Penrose had to withdraw due to illness.

Mary Hawton was upset about being only seeded 7th when she was the title-holder and ranked #3 Australian woman in 1955. "The only player seeded above me who has beaten me this year is Mary Carter" she said. Her seeding meant she was matched against Shirley Fry and though disappointed she acknowledged "Miss Fry was far too good for me".

In the twice-interrupted (rain) singles final, Gibson was foot-faulted 21 times. After one call, she slammed a ball into the members' reserve, where it hit LTAV vice-president Mr T Evans, who was sitting just a few feet away from the Prime Minister. When Gibson apologies, Evans smiled and lifted his hat in acknowledgement. Some sections of the crowd booed the linesmen and yelled 'give her a go', requiring the umpire to appeal for silence.

Victorian results and notes above added in Doubles SF and Girls SF have scores I wasn't sure how to interpret - if you got a chance to check those that would be a help. Thanks Gee Tee

June 4-10, International Championships of Switzerland, Lugano, [Red Clay]
July 23-29, Swiss Championships, Gstaad [Red Clay]
According to the roll of honour that I copy here, this year the Swiss Championships was the tournament held in Lugano, not that held in Gstaad
