Alice Weiwers/Robert Abdesselam d. Suzanne Pannetier/Roger Dessair 6-2 6-4

The German occupation precluded any real international involvement. Even Weiwers, from Luxembourg, was sometimes listed as French.

The title for the event was the "Tournoi de France".
Per the Noordbrabantsch Dagblad Het Huisgezin (8 August 1941), some scores were different from the above:

Singles final: 6-2, 6-0
Women's doubles final: 6-3, 6-4
Mixed final: 6-2, 6-2

Singles Notes:
.....(1) The 18-16 second set of the second round match between Mrs. Wendy Durie and the United Kingdom's Valerie Scott is tied for second all-time for the most games in a set of a women's singles match. (Sylvia Aubert won an 18-16 set from Jacqueline Horner in the final of the 1936 Critérium tournament in Paris, France. May Hardcastle won an 18-16 set from Audrey Lewin in the second round of the 1940 Australian National Championships. There certainly are more 18-16 sets.) The current, generally accepted recordholder is the 19-17 set won by Billie Jean King against Ann Haydon Jones in a Wightman Cup match.
.....(2) Dorothy Bundy Cheney "downed San Francisco's hard fighting Margaret Osborne [DuPont in the singles semifinals] ... in a display of endurance, and brilliant placements on vital points."

Mixed Doubles Notes:
.....(1) In Helen Wills's obituary in the Los Angeles Times on 3 January 1998, Jack Kramer was quoted as follows about this final: "Helen sure showed me a lot. She had a hell of a forehand, a powerful shot. She couldn't serve for aces, but she mixed it up. She never missed."
.....(2) The Oakland Tribune wrote after the mixed doubles final, "Fans who watched Mrs. Roark play when she was champion of the world said that except for being slightly slower in footwork, she was as good as ever."
.....(3) Dorothy Workman and Willis Anderson won the first set of their semifinal in "easy style" as Workman played brilliantly and Helen Wills Roark and Schroeder played sluggishly. Losing the set must have been motivating because from the very start of the second set, the favorites dominated play. They won 9 consecutive games to take a commanding 2-6, 6-0, 3-0 lead. Although the rest of the match was closely contested and had many deuces, Workman and Anderson could not catch-up.
.....(4) Per the Los Angeles Times the day after the second round match involving Wills Roark and Schroeder, the first set was "one of the greatest mixed doubles sets ever seen here."
.....(5) Wills Roark and Schroeder needed 115 games spread over 4 matches and 10 sets to win this tournament (28.8 games/match and 11.5 games per set).
.....(6) In a 10 day period, Helen Wills Roark (and her world-class partners Schroeder and Kramer) went undefeated in three mixed doubles matches against Sarah Palfrey Cooke (and her equally exceptional partners William Talbert, Bobby Riggs, and Kramer). These were not "mere exhibitions." The first two victories were during the annual East-West team competition that was held on-site at the start of this tournament. The third victory was in the final of this tournament. An observer could have reasonably waived-off one Wills Roark victory as just a fluke. But three victories surely meant something. A couple weeks before this tournament started, Palfrey Cooke and Kramer won the U. S. National Mixed Doubles Championship. But given Wills Roark's 3 convincing wins here, perhaps she (not Palfrey Cooke) was in 1941 the best American woman in mixed doubles.

East-West Mixed Doubles:
Day #1: Helen Wills Roark / Ted Schroeder d. Sarah
Palfrey Cooke / William Talbert 6-4, 6-0 (won
last 9 games) (played Sept 14) "Schroeder's
blistering drives and deft placements, coupled
with the former women's world champion's
deadly lobs to the baseline, which forced
Talbert and Mrs. Cooke out of position time and
again, completely disorganized ... [them] in the
second set."
Day #2: Helen Wills Roark / Jack Kramer d. Sarah
Palfrey Cooke / Bobby Riggs 6-2, 6-3 (played
Sept 15) "Helen Wills Roark's tactics and
masterful lobs consistently broke up the
opposition effort. Mrs. Roark, demonstrating
almost errorless tennis, maneuvered her
opponents out of position and into returning
balls that Kramer smashed for points." Final
Score: West 6, East 1

SF [2] Bundy Cheney d. [4] Arnold Prentiss 7-5, 6-3

FN [1] Pauline Betz d. [2] Dorothy Bundy Cheney 9-7, 4-6, 6-3 (35 games)

Singles Notes:
.....(1) Pauline Betz used her tremendous power from the baseline to keep Dorothy Bundy Cheney on the run throughout the final. There were no breaks of serve through 7-7 in the first set, with Betz three times holding serve to stay in the set. After 3 deuces in the 15th game, Betz hit consecutive cross court winners to finally break serve. Bundy Cheney's errors in the next game enabled Betz to hold serve easily and win the set. In the second set, Bundy Cheney managed to hold serve for a 5-4 lead despite committing a double fault and making 2 other errors. In the next game, her attacks from the net were too tough for Betz as Bundy Cheney broke serve at love to win the set. After the 10 minute rest period, Bundy Cheney was off her game at the start of the final set and never hit her stride. Betz broke serve for a 3-2 lead and dominated the rest of the set, breaking serve once more.
.....(2) Mary Arnold Prentiss lost in the semifinals, but her aggressiveness pressed Bundy Cheney throughout the match. Serving while up a break at 2-1 in the first set, Arnold Prentiss got broken. There were no more breaks of serve until 5-5 when Bundy Cheney began using her deceptive drop shot to break and hold serve to win the set. Arnold Prentiss noticeably tired in the second set as Bundy Cheney's sharp cross-court drives and drop shots took their toll.
.....(3) In the quarterfinals, Bundy Cheney and Shirley Fry played each other in singles for the first time. Bundy Cheney won 4 of their 6 career singles matches. They never played each other in a Grand Slam tournament.
.....(4) In the second round, Fry, just 14 years old, upset fifth-seeded Doris Hart 6-4, 9-7. This was their first singles match against each other, with their second not occurring for 5 1/2 more years. They played each other 54 times in singles, with Hart dominating 39-15 and winning 5 of their 7 matches in Grand Slam tournaments.

QF [1] Pauline Betz / Dorothy Bundy Cheney d. Harriet Holmes / Dorothy Chapin 6-0, 6-1
QF Arnold Prentiss / Hare Bartosh d. C. Wolf / Madden 6-3, 1-6, 6-3
QF Alice Arterburn / (unknown) Morton advanced by walkover. Doris Hart / Virginia Wolfenden Kovacs defaulted.

SF [2] Bradley / Stanton advanced by walkover. Arterburn / Morton defaulted.

FN [1] Pauline Betz / Dorothy Bundy Cheney d. [2] Barbara Bradley / Jane Stanton 6-3, 4-6, 6-4

Women's Doubles Note:
.....Barbara Bradley & Jane Stanton, the reigning national clay court champions, uncharacteristically found themselves out of position throughout the final. Pauline Betz and Dorothy Bundy Cheney took full advantage. Bundy Cheney's very effective overhead game was the difference in the third set.

But Palfrey Cooke won all 3 of their remaining matches during 1941 (1 on South American clay, 1 on grass, and 1 on hard courts).

Summary

"Little Miss Almost" finally wins a major. The pert, pretty, and personable Sarah Palfrey Cooke is a popular winner at the US Nationals. With Wimbledon not being held for the second year running due to World War II the Forest Hills event is the de facto biggest event of the year.

Sarah becomes the first US Champion from the East Coast since the days of Molla Mallory in the 1920s. She took out #1 seed Pauline Betz in a 7-5 6-2 final.

Betz was lucky to make the final at all. In round one a 16 year old sensation from Florida served for the match. Doris Hart wears long skirts to hide a deformed knee. Knee notwithstanding, she is a rabbit about the court. She took the first set to "hysteric applause". In set two Betz won at love as Doris' shots flew out of court. Hart came back from 2 match points in the third at 4-5 15-40- one saved with a near ace. At 6-5 she served for the upset of the year, but was broken at love. They then held serve until 9-9, when Betz ran off 8 straight points. It was the match of the women's tournament.

Alice Weiwers, who was originally from Luxembourg, won the French Championships, which is probably limited to French Nationals.

This thread builds on the shoulders of that thread.
As 1941 came to a close, Dorothy Bundy Cheney had reached at least the quarterfinals in 27 consecutive singles tournaments.

.....(1) From "The Los Angeles Times": "Miss Brough turned in the greatest upset of the tournament yesterday [in the semifinals] when she eliminated top-seeded Gracyn Wheeler Kelleher of Santa Monica, but the national girls champion was no match for the determined Miss Arnold today. Miss Arnold completely played Miss Brough off her feet to win 6-2, 3-6, 6-1."
.....(2) From "The Los Angeles Times": In the semifinals, top-seeded Gracyn Wheeler Kelleher started the match with confidence by taking a 2-0 lead over 18 year old Louise Brough. But then, "Brough turned loose her smashing forehand drives to completely outclass the former Wightman Cup star."
