She has a lingering wrist issue since her massively successful clay season (RG final). Before Wimbledon, she had a good chance of making it to YEC, but now she'd better heal the wrist and come strong in Australia.

Apparently, it's not completely healed and she doesn't want to risk the rest of the season.

4 Lucky Losers already :help:

These many late withdrawals in Grand Slams these days are pathetic
All because this stupid new rule which gives money to players who withdraw late :weirdo:

Players who withdraw from main draw after Grand Slam Quali draw is made, should be punished.
They should get no prize money at all and even pay some penalty.

(I do not mean Anisimova who withdrew because her father died. That is understandable. I mean the other ones who knew they would not play the US Open because of injury, but stay in the draw to get the money.)

The rules should be changed. Sooo many LLs in Grand Slam main draws is stupid.

definitely not... it's better to have more LLs, than to have a bunch of players tanking in 1R to get the full prize money. This way we have players into the draw who are trying all-out to win... and all these girls won 2 rounds in qualifying to get there, it's not like they are getting into MD for nothing. It's a big opportunity for them.

Odd that Zvonareva is withdrawing late as one would assume she didn't need the money and it was clearly doubtful she would play when she hasn't for months (since Roland Garros I believe?).

Vondroušová comes across as a bit shellshocked by her Roland Garros run. Not that this injury is a result of that, but she was clearly not ready for the final and has failed to capitalize on the final in the slightest (either on court or off court) since then.

Three rounds, and they are really battling hard out there. Last year the men's draw had like 12 retirements the first four days, it is better to have fit LLs surely.

Poor Marketa :( She didn't even have a very heavy schedule and yet she still got injured. She was defending 4R points here as well! (she upset Bertens last year) At least she seems to be going deep in very tournament so she continue with a more sparse schedule like she has been so far.
