I forget to ask how many (??? weeks) you expect of Maria at #1 position?

So, what do you think, is she deserve #1 or not and how long MaSha keep #1 status this year, and how many weeks at #1 you expect of she in her career.
And what will be her most dangerous problem to keep (or back, in future) this #1 status - Henin, Davenport, Clijsters, Serena, Venus, Mauresmo, some new, or maybe injury problems or her "celebrity" status?

This year? At least 13, till YEC.
In that case she will be in 18' world#1 more weeks than MoMo, Venus, Kim or Arantxa in whole career!

weeks at #1 said:
377 Steffi Graf
331 Martina Navratilova
262 Chris Evert
209 Martina Hingis
178 Monica Seles
82 Lindsay Davenport
57 Serena Williams
45 Justine Henin-Hardenne
22 Tracy Austin
17 Jennifer Capriati
12 Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario
12 Kim Clijsters
11 Venus Williams
5 Amelie Mauresmo

Henin is more dangerous for Maria #1 status then Davenport. IMO.

Yes, and if she keeps it after YEC then she'll have it for at least ~2 months more, passing Capriati and Austin.

I think Henin is more of a threat to take it for a long period. Maria will almost certainly get there but I don't think it will last long with fall points & the YEC coming off. JHH is just adding & with a good USO & YEC, I could see her as the #1 for sure.

If she play, she ready for #1 maybe before YEC.

JHH have only Olympic games (she win) of 2004 and nothing else, but she have largest injury problems in last 2-3 years, so we will see what happen in next moths. After JHH, most dangerous for MaSha#1 is Kim (IMO), because Davenport and MoMo must defend a lot last year pts (and Lindsay have injury), and both Williams sisters miss too much matches this season...

I think Maria has a chance to be one of the all-time greats.
She's still very young, still getting taller and stronger.
As long as she keeps her health & intensity, she'll be in the battle for #1.

That's not true. Lindsay only has one major thing to defend in the fall - Filderstadt. Other than that, she can really only gain.

I was thinkng that. Shes lost/almost lost all the points she was defending really. Marias defending quite a bit!

Maria:
After USO shes defending:
- Semis at Beijing 102 points
- Seoul title 112 points
- Tokyo title 137 points
- finalist at Zurich 310 points
- Semis at Philly 138 points
- YEC title 684 points
TOTAL 1483 points

Lindsay:
After USO shes defending:
- Filderstadt title 413 points
- semis at moscow 166 points
- YEC 214 points
TOTAL 793 points

So a big difference!!!

If u wanna include USO too, Marias defending 1575 for the rest of the year, some of which are tier III and below, and Lindsays defending 1249.

OK... if her injury is not serious, Lindsay is TOP3 candidate to finish this year at #1.

I forget yesterday present list "FINISH YEAR AT#1":

Year Player Nationality
2004 Lindsay Davenport USA
2003 Justine Henin-Hardenne (8) Belgium
2002 Serena Williams (7) USA
2001 Lindsay Davenport USA
2000 Martina Hingis SUI
1999 Martina Hingis SUI
1998 Lindsay Davenport (6) USA
1997 Martina Hingis (5) SUI
1996 Steffi Graf GER
1995 Steffi Graf/Monica Seles GER/USA
1994 Steffi Graf USA
1993 Steffi Graf GER
1992 Monica Seles former Yugoslavia
1991 Monica Seles (4) former Yugoslavia
1990 Steffi Graf GER
1989 Steffi Graf GER
1988 Steffi Graf GER
1987 Steffi Graf (3) GER
1986 Martina Navratilova USA
1985 Martina Navratilova USA
1984 Martina Navratilova USA
1983 Martina Navratilova USA
1982 Martina Navratilova USA
1981 Chris Evert USA
1980 Chris Evert USA
1979 Martina Navratilova former Czechoslovakia
1978 Martina Navratilova (2) former Czechoslovakia
1977 Chris Evert USA
1976 Chris Evert USA
1975 Chris Evert USA
1974 Chris Evert (1) USA

So, only 8 players finish year at #1... is MaSha ready to be #9 already this year? I'm not sure (Justin have better chance so far, and Lindsay too, if her injury is not so hard).

Well, from USO till the start of YEC (including USO, excluding YEC), Maria has about 150 points less to defend than either Lindsay or Momo. So, Maria has a good chance to stay #1 till YEC.

Justine has nothing to defend but she is about 1500 points behind #1. I don't see her catching up with Maria before YEC.

Most likely Maria will stay #1 till YEC where the #1 will be decided between her, Lindsay, and maybe Momo, Justine, Kim, Serena, or Venus, if one of these last 5 players does really well at USO.

Sharapova doesn't have much to defend at the US Open either. If she makes a good run into the second week at NY, she may have a chance of fending off Henin.

Even if this happens (and you do realize it is highly unlikely? not impossible but other otcomes are much more likely) Maria will get a few hundred points herself. So, I don't see JHH catching up with Maria before YEC.

By the way, do you know Justine's schedule till the end of the year?
