Kiri in Rome 2013.

Next stop in Kiri`s clay season is in Rome. She lost in 1st round last year.

BYE Errani
Knapp-McHale
Q-Lepchenko
Q-Kirilenko

Stephens-Pennetta
Schiavone-Bertens
Q-Q
BYE Sharapova

Errani lost in semis in Madrid, and we all know how Kiri lost in Australia this year.

Oh dear, what an useless draw again.
R3 could be the maximum again I guess. Errani is a horrible match-up for Maria, especially on clay
Good that Kiri hasn't to defend anything in Rome. I am already looking forward to the French Open, tbh

Let's be honest, barring Radwanska and maybe Kvitova, which top 8 player is not an horrible match-up on clay against Kiri?
I won't complain about getting Errani as a possible R3. She's clearly a huge favourite, but since we're not talking about neither Serena nor Big Masha it's ok to me, let's see what happen match after match.

P.s: she will play in Strasbourg before. ;)

Yeah OK draw. I mean like Iblis said: she did avoid Masha & Williams, so I guess we can't complain about that. I'd chose Errani over them any day. Also I'm excited about Strasbourg. She can probably pick up a descent amount of points from that tournament as well.

This is a GREAT draw for Makiri! A qualifier first round, then potentially Varvara second round. Makiri is 2-0 against Varvara, including on clay at Charleston in 2011, where she bageled her.

Makiri went out first round last year to Flavia Pennetta, so this draw is a vast improvement.

Re: Kiri in Rome 2013.

ok ok, you are right, I am probably never happy with her draws

it really could have been muche worse for the first two rounds. Maybe I dislike the draw so much because I don't like Errani, and I hate it when Kiri loses to her :tape: On the other side that would make it even sweeter if Kiri could beat her..
But first let's see what's going to happen in R1 and/or R2

And of course, as long as she isn't a top ten player, Maria always will get a top player very soon in bigger tournaments, you can't avoid that.

Oh right, there is also Strasbourg for her before the FO, and I like her chances there :)

She must make a deep run there, it's a huge chance if you look at the field.

:secret: A top 8 player, actually. It would allow her to avoid the other Year end Championship players until the quaterfinals of the Slams, for example. However, being ranked 9th or 10th is the same as being ranked 11th or 12th in terms of the draw.

I'm glad she's playing Strasbourg. I always have a feeling that she can get a lot of ranking points from those International tournaments and this one is indeed especially weak. She will be on the opposite side from Bartoli and if she can avoid Hantuchova, she should have a good draw. But Rome first.

It's a terrible draw imo, but good luck anyway Maria  :cheer:

ah ok, thx! Ok then Kiri hast to break not just into the top ten, but into top 8 ;)

now we know Maria's opponent for R1. It's clay specialist Anabel Medina Garrigues, who bagelled Serena Williams some days ago...
This could be a really tough one for Kiri

it's their fourth meeting, Kiri leads 2-1. She won 2008 in Rome in R2 in three sets.
They won't play tomrrow, so I guess on tuesday then

That would be great :D She would need about 4000 pts though, something she never came close to achieve. It's not impossible, but she would need a very strong year, with eventually a semifinal in a slam for example or a P5 title.

Medina Garrigues as Maria's first opponent? Well, this is certainly unfortunate. However, since 2010, Garrigues is not the player she used to be. The former Top30 player is now ranked 63th and she's 5-9 this year. Her best win of the year is against Pironkova, ranked 50th. If Maria play well, she should win that one

Tough draw, well, every draw is tough for Maria

I don't like the fact she is playing a specialist in R1, AMG could be tricky...

Re: Kiri in Rome 2013.

She could be tricky as you want, but what the hell, MaKiri has to win a match like this.

Yes, but you know, Maria can lose to an anemic snail on her bad day...

Aufrecht Melcher Grossaspach is more dangerous than a snail, even a non-anemic one, so Maria has to be careful and focused.

It's not time to think to an Italian ice cream, this thing is a real problem for Maria.
