I agree with Chanda Rubin and Mark Knowles

All four slams have the right to decide their own seeds. It's just that other three never use that right and follow the official rankings.
I didn't know they all had the right to decide their own seeds. It seems to defeat the purpose of having rankings! Just scrap all special seedings and stick to the rankings which players have worked for and built up. Just my own personal viewpoint!

It's a compromise that was agreed in 2001 after a fight between players and AELTC. Before that organizers could do whatever they wanted with the seeds.
I never knew that. Thank you. Given clay is also a specialist surface I still think all tournaments should just stick to the rankings. It would/could spice things up anyway! A great player will win if he/she is destined too regardless of a seeding here or there.

To be fair, it's a moot point. it's not as if the women actually defend their seeds.

Last year, no one in the Top 10 even made the Quarters.

Plenty of potential banana skins for the seeds there. And loads of random upsets are pretty certain too.

There is a reason. Public interest.

Of course, everybody wants Fed to make the final again.

The Vondrousova effect at the ladies' - who cares? And it will happen.

I dont remember anyone picking Barty or Vondousova the week before the French Open
There is no point in the old white men who run these events to play around with seeds, unless a real contender is unseeded. Thats rare but it could happen.
Look at Stephens. She can contend or be out round 1, so can 20 of the seeds. Nadal could contend or be out early

If they keep applying the special seeding rule, of course Federer and Anderson will get bumped up. Everyone knows that. There’s no point being too shocked about it or arguing that now. But imo they should apply that rule for both tours if they want to use it, instead of randomly bumping a woman’s seed whenever they feel like it.

Bumped Anderson for the only fluke Wimbledon is the stupidest idea ever.

Yeah... not sure why they aren't applying the seeding to both men and women....

basically all tournaments are sucking up to Federer, don't know why, seeding him 2nd kind of ensures a final which is better than semis in eyes of Wimbledon
