Not directly, but they lived at the opposite ends of the valley and because they were the youngest in the clan, on windy days, when the smoke signals were out, they had to scream the news over.

Is she done for this season? I haven't seen her on any EL so far. I wonder if she's going to play 125k/100k or she will rest and focus on next season.

A year of stagnation in the end, hope she picks it up, serve has to be fixed, along with some other slight technical issues, at least I feel the fight is there and talent is undoubtable, I feel she'll get where she belongs soon

Very disappointing year

She lost in Moscow R1 to Kalinskaya (who lost 1-6 1-6 in R2 to Alexandrova)

No Ace, 18 DFs = -18 !

Her serve is a huge weakness. She has one of the worst serves. Anastasia MUST improve it

A painful loss. So close. But Gauff was a bit better.
Both are big fighters and have similar games. It was fun to watch.
Gauff was mentally stronger. She won the important points with brave tennis.
Anastasia must improve her weak serve and forehand. Also must play more aggressive/braver.

I did not see Nastya's disintegration in this match coming. Compare the way she was playing in the final set to the first. It's like a different player.

The errors were big and bizarre by the end - like technique just went out the window. But actually both players made more or less the same amount of winners and unforced errors overall. A lot of it came down to big points. For me, Nastya's serve is not reliable enough. She was serving at under 50% most of the match. If she could just get that up a tiny amount it could make all the difference in a match like this.

Gauff on the other hand is certainly the real deal. She has the composure that marks out a champ. It's quite impressive really.

Nothing against Coco but it was quite nice early on to see Nastya shutting down the hype surrounding her. Don't think she really got her due in the build-up. How quickly they forget she was junior number one less than three years ago.

Potapova is a very good player and, given time, will get much nearer the top of the rankings. However, the best comparison for her must be Dayana Yastremska. Potapova beat her in the 2016 Wimbledon junior final, but was quite lucky to do so, as Yastremska started much better, but just started bashing harder and harder the longer the match went on. Fast forward two years to the ITF final in Rome - and I watched in awe as Yastremska absolutely destroyed Potapova, 6-1, 6-0, in just 45 minutes.

I think it's obvious that Yastremska has learnt rather more than Potapova over the last couple of years, to the point that she was the first player born in the 2000s to reach the top 100, and is now seeded at a Grand Slam event for the first time. Put Gauff against her and Yastremska would win. Maybe Potapova needs to watch her friend a bit more closely to see just HOW she managed to make the leap to the top group.

I understood what surprised me is that I know that you know her and it's not something that should surprise you because she always do this .

I checked the stats to be sure and she hit more UE in that 1set than in the 2nd or the 3rd set.

the problem wasn't the UE it was that she almost hit as many winners or generate forced error in the 2nd and 3rd set combined than what she did in the 1st set. That reminded me her match against Martic where the 1st set was brillant but she couldn't sustain it during the whole match.

I think she knows and her coach knows what she needs to improve but that will need time because they are technique problems she always had.

It's really big experience for Nastya. She played very well (of course, not her best), especially against Gauff and all the crowd!
And the handshake was just...
Nastya's handshakes are always kind, even when she lose. She is classy. Hope they'll meet in the final rounds in the future!

Gauff recounted that, at the post-match handshake, Potapova "said 'Congratulations, that was amazing.' I said, 'Congratulations, it was a great fight. You played amazing.' I think anyone could have won that match maybe if a point went different or something. She played amazing."

"I think it was a good match on such a big stage so a lot of people could see it,"*Gauff continued. "She's young, too. She's only a couple years older than me. I know we're going to see each other a lot in the future. I hope we do see each other in the future, but hopefully in the finals, not in the first round."

She really started well, that reminded me her match against Martic at Wimbledon but at the moment she can't sustain that during 2 sets. They're too many ups and downs to be competitive at the top.

She has a lot of work to do and the 1st step is to be able to sustain the quality the showed in that 1st set to improve he rankings and being in the entry list of the big tournaments(P5/PM).
