Talent doesn't mean anything.

Re: Halep vs Barty talent wise?

Variety: Ash 9/10, Halep 4/10

Halep has made the most of her game I think and I don't see too much possibility of improvement. You could say the same for quite a few others in the top ten.

Barty on the other hand seems to be continually improving at the moment and over the past few months we have seen it begin to show the result of that.

Halep obviously. Anyone who has watched Halep at her peak would agree.

Those scores put her squarely within the top ten of active players on overall technical ability, confirming that, while Barty’s backhand is her strongest weapon, she has multiple weapons to choose from in any game situation.

The DNA numbers also highlight tactical strengths that make Barty’s game unique. Commanding the space and time of a point is critical to success in today’s game. Barty scores an 88.5 on one of the key metrics in this area, namely, “court control”, which measures how successful a player is when they have a more advantageous court position.

Few other women’s players score higher on this measure, indicating Barty’s unique ability to capitalise on strategic opportunities in rallies.

Barty’s technical and tactical abilities are supported by outstanding agility that allows her to move with ease and strength throughout the court. Indeed, GIG’s “agility” statistic scores Barty at 93.9, making it her strongest physical attribute. It is the quality of movement that has made Barty one of the rare players in modern tennis who is at the top of the singles and doubles game – she holds major titles in both events.

I was going to post that haha. She’s definitely one of the most talented girls on tour. Her only weakness is a weak return.

PovaBmachY Talent isn't everything. Halep has more grit and is a fighter.

jar11235 Talent whatever H2H favors Halep. And for the posters who say Halep has no talent , then you're full of shit. If being #1 for 64 weeks, winning a major, 3 PMs, and being the most consistent player in the last five years doesn't take talent , then nothing takes talent.

Re: Halep vs Barty talent wise?

Both 5'5 short girls are very talented, hard working and a huge desire to win.
Barty's big advantage is in her big shoulders.
Barty's big shoulders is where she develops her big serve and power groundies.
Halep, without the big shoulders, has to throw her whole body into her shots, which reduces accuracy and requires great body coordination and also consumes a lot of energy.
-
There are only two short players in the top 20 --- Halep and Barty.
-
In the last 45 years, the only short players, 5'5 and under, to win Grand Slams have been -- BJK, Barbara Jordan, Henin, Halep and Barty.
Halep and Barty are in rare company.

Barty slice is not just a nothing shot, its amazing how low she keeps it over the net and deep onto corners of the court. The crowd gasps in few occasions at the low margins. Graf like.

Re: Halep vs Barty talent wise?

You cant be great at this sport without athleticism and mentality.
I dont know what to make of Barty. She beat Anisimova and Vondrousova. That might look good in 10 years, but I'm not sure what to make of it in spring of 2019.
Lets see a few more majors and premiers. Barty had such an unusual career she might have a lot of upside in terms of her game

I think these majors are going to be wide open. I said that a year ago when Wozniacki and Halep had won YEC, AO, FO. The majors were now open. Then Woz got her illness and I dont know whats going on with Halep but she looked awful against Anisimova. No fight like she had the year before

binky-GOAT I think some are overthinking talent.

Getting to #1, being successful or winning a lot of money doesn’t constitute to talent when discussing top players.

It is a subjective term, not based necessarily on results.

It is based on:
- Variety of shots in arsenal
- How well they can execute certain shots
- Uniqueness, what they can do that others can’t

Consistency, athleticism and mentality doesn’t come into equation for me.
