Total brainfart from Jil. Bad timing for this with grass coming up where she won't be winning many matches.
I don't think Jil has EVER played on grass at a senior level. She has avoided it like the plague, which seems a very 1980s clay court player attitude, you would have thought she would have turned up just for the qualies of Wimbledon a few times, but no! I think she will be one of the 'grass is for cows', bagelled and breadsticked into oblivion at SW19! If she played this badly at RG, it makes you shudder to think....

Anyway, turning back to this match:
1. Katie had nothing to lose. She has not been in great form but maybe something just clicked today and this is the sign of some new phase in the Swan career...

2. Often players who do well in a run up to a slam then slump in it. Maybe Jil peaked too soon.

3. Jil has never been in the top 100 and never had the pressure of being expected to qualify in a slam as one of the top seeds in qualies. She probably panicked and got really nervous and froze. Top seeds in GS qualies often flop, they have all the pressure and often feel annoyed at having to qualify in the first place so it's a negative from day one. She isn't the only top 8 seed to have gone in Q1, three of the other top 8 have gone: Voegele, McHale and Bonaventure have also departed. It will be interesting to see where she goes from here or whether she will have a bad slump that continues after Wimbledon. Is she playing the $125k in Bol?

Not really surprised at all by this result. Good on Teichman for winning the Prague tourney but the tour has so much depth these days, that consistency is tough to maintain. Swan's a solid player who had nothing to lose in this one. The Swiss probably felt some pressure and may have had a bad day as well. Good news: She's in the Wimbledon main draw and all the other grand slams for the next year. Hopefully, Swan this won't be Katie's swan song!

This. And actually, you don’t make top 100 with “one result” only. R2 in Us Open coming from Q is another sign she belongs to that level

Outside of her fluke Prague result where she scored 300 points (basically half her whole ranking) she only has 2 notable results in the last 12 months, she won a 25K (lol) and she made R2 of Usopen and shes now somehow in the top 100? lol
Yes - you could argue the opposite but still have any of the French wc's had better results or won a WTA title - fluke or otherwise? And would you be lol if she was Australian?
