Arad 25K SF:
Irene Burillo Escorihuela def. (7) Lea Boskovic 6-3 5-7 6-4

Lea was fighting hard being 3-6 1-5 down but then again in final set she was 2-5 down, saved 2 match points and managed to get to 4-5.
When serving for 5-5 it was 30-40, third MP for Spaniard which she used.
Shame because she was close to get to 5-5 and then she would have been mentally in advantage.
Great fight anyways.

That might be good enough for a top-300 ranking

Re: Lea Bošković

It's probably a little early for her to be consistent at a solid level, but there's no hurry. Looking at all those 30+ girls playing some of their best tennis...

Re: Lea Bošković

Ugh, lost today in straights to a player ranked barely in the top 600. I can't imagine what was going on with Lea today. Hope she's not injured.

Re: Lea Bošković

Lea won her R1 match today at W60+H Zagreb. She beat Hesse (#238; CHR #154) in straight sets. That's a nice win.

She's up to a new CHR #308 in the live rankings.

Needs less than 10 points to break into the top 300. Surely it'll happen soon, no?

Re: Lea Bošković

I couldn't see the last set and am sorry she lost, but I'm still quite pleased with what I saw yesterday.

Lea reminds a bit of Martic, not just in tall and slim stature, but in game as well. She doesn't seem to produce a lot of power (at least not regularly), but she makes up for it with tricky serves with good placement and a good sense for the game, what we call "tennis smarts".

She can keep herself in a rally well (which is a rarity for Cro players in early stages of development...), she is not bad from the net either, but can have problems with the first volley, especially if she has to pick the ball up from the ground. It's probably due to her height, but it's not something that can't be taught later on, I'd say.

Her court coverage is good and her overall game is nice, but she still doesn't have a distinct weapon, which is often a sign of a great player in the making. Still, I think she can have a solid career, as she is already good enough for top 200 IMO. I like the fact that her backhand seems to be more reliable than the forehand (cause, like, everyone and their grandma has a good forehand...lol).

Overall, if she targets French Open qualies and doesn't get injured much, I'd say that's something reasonable to go for. Maybe she can in theory reach the qualies even in Melbourne, but I see no reason to rush things, as she still has a lot of learning to do and is better off making wins on these levels for now.

I'm really looking forward to her next events.
