More hardware for the trophy case, I guess...

Yep I had mentioned in the player forum that I'd be worried if I was coach Sampras...

It seems that several of the young junior Americans have caught on fire.

First with Bellis getting hot during and after the US Open last year. See you later Stanford.
After she turned pro, Bellis passes the torch to Kayla Day, who gets hot after the US Open to gain the W/C bid for AO.
That sets-up Day turning pro to cash-in on AO.
Kayla passes the torch first to both of her doubles partner, Taylor Johnson (juniors) and Caroline Dolehide (ITF).

Taylor heats up late last year, rising up the junior ranks, although still has 2 years to go.
Dolehide heats up this year, winning $25k Suprise is Feb, but losing to Bringle in $60k Charlottesville.

Hopefully, nobody passes the torch to Claire Liu, as I suspect she will follow in the footsteps of her doubles partner Michaela Gordon (going to Stanford), although I'm sure UCLA is still in the running...or not!

Yep, Stanford would be solid in doubles with these two.

So who thinks Dolehide will go to UCLA?
When the other option is to train with another professional tour player?

Interesting article

WHAT MAKES TENNIS TICK
The secret behind Stanford’s winningest sport

Through her first six seasons, Forood had remarkably totaled more NCAA championships (5) than overall losses (3).

Anyways I signed back up w/ a new name.

Davidson has had some injuries and isn't quite back to her old level, so that is why she is No. 3.

I hate the regular set they use for doubles now, instead of a pro set.
My guess is that if Davidson isn’t able to play 100% then Stanford is a bit of a long shot.
Doubles is getting too short that anything can happen. Might as well make it a coin toss...

What's the story on Davidson? Is she recovering from an injury?

I like that she's at #3, actually, as her style of play does not give her much of a chance at #1.

Doyle has been stepping up at #1 giving Card a 50% shot.

Speaking of interest, I think their are a few factors in play:
1) Fantic's disappearance
2) New rules, shorten the game, exciting? or disappointing? Probably has divided the interest in the game. Personally, I hate attempts to shorten the game.
3) Junior talent turning pro has diluted the talent playing college (nothing new) but more international players seem to have leveled the playing field.

Teams are seeded. I believe right now it's:

1. Stanford
2. Cal
3. ASU
4. UCLA
5. Oregon
6. USC
7. Washington
8. Utah

The top seeds get byes. I think USC plays Washington then Oregon plays Utah.

I guess it's indoors and there are only 5 courts available. Line 6 only started when a court became free. Very close match on 5 courts + doubles, line 6 heading for a double bagel.

Vanderbilt (also?) beat Florida a week ago and with Georgia suffering a shock defeat to Texas A&M at the same time, took the regular season title outright.

EDIT: the fightback starts here; no double bagel, at least.
Seems like no team is unbeatable (like on any given Sunday)...

However, great win for the Card yesterday defeating Cal at Cal. The two freshmen have been rock solid and the team will need them to continue that play as they head into the NCAA playoffs.

I attached a shot from last weekend's match. Go Card!

Contreras went walkabout at 6-0 3-0, was down 3-5 second set to Liang, but won 4 games in a row to earn the championship for Vanderbilt.

Re: 2016-17 College Tennis Results and Discussion

I am not surprised. This is tennis. No matter how good you are as a player, you're going to have bad days on the court, where nothing is going right.
Add to that a team that wants to knock you off AND not just a Top 20 team, but a #6 ranked team.

Then again, maybe they peaked too early, after beating Stanford, and emotionally they're flat, and need this loss to get back into it!!!

This could be 2010 all over again, where Florida is the favorite to win it all...
