Rankings, 15 July.

1. 76 Mutavdzic
2. 116 Allen
3. 124 Banks
...
6. 157 Raducanu

Neilson Gatenby debuts at 1124 (I'm not going to work out what that is in terms of the GB rankings).

Great dirtballing and a big step forward for the 13 year old.

Re: Green Strawberries: the British Juniors thread

Matilda lost 4 & 4 to Noel. Just Holly and Matilda left in the GD (R2) now.

Local news account of yesterday's match: https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/sport/1...girls-singles/ (Report of today's match is also up, but doesn't say anthing.)

Quote:
Mutavdzic, who now lives in Genk, Belgium, and plays most of her tennis abroad, could not hide her delight at claiming victory.

She said: "I'm very, very happy with this win. In general I think you could say I'm ecstatic.

"I was just happy to have got one win at Wimbledon, to get through two rounds is far beyond my expectations.

"I had to show a lot of mental toughness out there, and I think I did.

"Before this, winning the ten and under national championships here was the highlight of my career. But now this is."

Re: Green Strawberries: the British Juniors thread

I was at Matilda's match, first time I've seen her play. Very impressive. Looked well focussed. Good groundstokes and court movement. Not afraid to take balls before they bounce - loads of winning smashes and drive volleys. Reacted well to losing the first set and being broken back in the others. She looks like the youngest player left; don't know if that's true.

Re: Juniors

Erin didn't quite make it through, so we're down to one in the singles.

Frayman DF. GSM Mutavdzic, 4-6 6-3 6-3

Hug with Dad (I assume). One autograph request. 10th seed Alexa Noel stands between Matilda and the QF.

Matilda takes it to a 3rd.

Richie about to take to Court 4, but faces a daunting opponent in Snigur.

Re: Green Strawberries: the British Juniors thread

Matilda on the live stream now (presumably also on the red button for satellite viewers). I knew she looked young for her age, but, well, she looks young for her age. I'm sure she is quite small, but possibly a little taller than she looks. Doing okish on serve, but making no impression on the Frayman serve, which seems a bit curious because her game can't be based around her serve.

Ooh, foot fault for a double fault. Perhaps thinks she needs all the help she can get.

She moves well, which is kind of refreshing for a British player.

Crowd disappointingly disengaged.

Saves two SP to trail 4-5*.

...

Sloppy returning game, and just like that, loses the first set.

Re: Green Strawberries: the British Juniors thread

The likely new British head girl, Matilda Mutavdzic, celebrates by rescuing day 2 with a 6-3 3-6 6-3 win over number 7 seed Nahimana.

Matilda plays Frayman 3rd on C8 tomorrow, so if it's like today, she'll be on telly. Not sure it will be like today, though.

Day 1 at the Wimbledon girls' was the old guard plus Holly. Looked to be heading for a wipeout after the more heralded Fischer, Allen and Martins (and Garland, come to that, who gave a very desultory performance) all lost. The day was rescued by the ostensible lesser lights of Kartal and Erin Richardson turning over Poulos and Lavickova respectively.
