Bol 10k R1:

Mezak/Spremo lt. [2]Schaefer/Vlachova 4:6, 5:7

A respectable scoreline give the opponents, but a shame, especially since they had a 4:2 lead in the first set.

Unfortunately it was a very brief stay in Sibenik for Matea, she and Basic lost 7:5, 6:4

Guess who's back

Matea is about to play her first event of 2014 this week in Sibenik, but will compete only in dobules partnering Martina Basic. Last year she has only entered 8 ITF doubles events, the last of which was in late May, and her last singles match happened 4 years ago (that same year she got her last singles win, coincidentally in Sibenik). Her win-loss record last year was 7-8, and she is currently outside of top 1000 in doubles.

I can't seem to find any info about what happened to her to miss out for all these years, guessing it could be something health-related, but it's such a shame for a solid player that she once was (a career-high ranking of 208 and 135, in singles and doubles respectively).

Hopefully she can at least have a few more good years on the Circuit as a doubles player exclusively, if that's what she's going for.

Best of luck Matea!

Matea is playing in this week's $10K in Bol, where she's the #3 seed. In R1 she beat Leonie MEKEL 46 75 62 and in R2 she beat Zuzana LINHOVA 61 60. In the QF she plays Romana TABAKOVA.

Good luck, Matea!

Matea beat Piia Suomalainen in R2! The score was 36 61 63.

In the QF she plays the #8 seed, Anne Smith (#350). Good luck, Matea--keep it going!

I hope she finally gets going, she still hasn't broken the top400 barrier since starting her comeback. Hope this could be a turning point, or at least a sign of one coming up. Fingers crossed!

After a disappointing last week for Matea (lost to Katarzyna Piter badly, 16 36, in R1 of the Buchen $10K), things are looking up for her. This week she's playing at the Bath $10K and in R1 she beat the #2 seed, Stephanie Vongsouthi 64 64. This is an excellent win for Matea, as Vongsouthi is #238 and has been playing solidly (reached consecutive $10K semis in the past two weeks).

In R2 she plays Piia Suomalainen. This is winnable for Matea, as Suomalainen is #571, with career-high #425 (even though she's already 25 yo), and struggled in R1 to beat an unranked 16-yo in two tiebreakers.

Congratulations and good luck, Matea!

It's really too bad she has to play someone with such a good career-high ranking at this stage. Best of luck, Matea!
Sure enough, Matea lost (I had a bad feeling about this one). At least she kept it close: 75 57 64.

^Well, Matea is closer to her career-high #208, so she's not in such a bad position, and as a seeded player she should have little or no problems qualifying.

Best of luck!

Moved up 35 more places, to 458 - don't see her on any lists btw.

World's #493 as of this week - not bad, but still far from what she could really do.

Matea will move up to ~460-465. Not bad at all, considering that she finished the 2008 season at 779 and that she didn't start her 2009 season until April.
