Re: Maria in Paris - Roland Garros 2013

Well done to Makiri on making the French Open quarterfinal and in finally making the top 10. I don't think I have ever seen a tennis player work so hard or wait so long to make the top 10 as Kiri.

But it is very hard for Little Maria to beat Serena, Big Maria and Vika when they are healthy. Kiri needs to serve well to compete with them and while her serve has improved in recent years I fear her sore right shoulder is causing her recent serving problems and that kills her in tough matches like her RG QF against Azarenka.

It is very difficult to appear because Roland Garros is copyright and material displayed prohibits parties except someone can edit the image of the matches.

Re: Maria in Paris - Roland Garros 2013

I missed most of the quarterfinal as I ended up sleeping through it and my partial recording of Espn 2 had little coverage of the match aside from the 1st set tiebreak.

Maria wants to rest, then play Eastbourne to reach Wimbledeon well.

Makiri really overachieved her at RG-- she was the only quarterfinalist who had not been in a Slam final before!

Congrats on her reaching the Top 10 for the first time in her career!

Now onto the grass!

Maria.
Vika is so strong mentally, after the break on *6-5 she played a superb tie-break, unfortunately Maria's serve vanished in the worst possible moment.
The match was pretty much over even before the 2nd set started, obviously.
Anyway, I'm so proud of how MaKiri played today, the best match of her RG run for sure, I wanted a competitive match and that's what I had.
Furthermore, she reached another slam QF, but, most importantly, the tenth place in the ranking (thank you Big Masha ), that's awesome.
Now she can rest and prepare for the grass season, can't wait already for it.

True, but I'd be fine to see her still in the Top Ten after Wimbledon, where she got lots of points to defend, a QF and of course the OG 4th place, it's more than 700 points I guess.

Maria missed too much first serves in the TB and gifted the break in 2nd set (UE at net and DF), then Vika is definitely in an other league (so are Sharapova and Serena), physically and mentally very strong.

She could really belong to the 5-10 part of the rankings if she goes on like that and if her body leaves her in peace.

I've noticed even on this forum most of people start to finally acknowledge her skills (before it was losing to Kiri/Mugerenko = new low )

Good tournament Kiri ! Now rest for Wimbledon
