Re: Tereza Mrdeza cheering thread

Tereza couldn't manage a win against Siegemund after all.

She won the first set 6:3, and was actually serving for 5:3 in the second, but Siegemund played well in that game, Tereza stayed a bit reserved and the chance was gone. Later, she fought off two set points at 4:5, second set, and got the match into a tie break. There, she was 4:3 up with two serves of her own, but both times she served with practically no risk at all and got punished for it. Once she lost that tie break, it was pretty much all over, the German won the third 6:1.

Still, considering she was facing a top 100 player, there are positives to take away from this result as well. I think she is certain for Wimbledon qualies, but she'll probably have to get back up a little for the same to happen in NYC. Still, that's a long way to go. Usually she plays some of her worst tennis on grass, hopefully that changes a bit this year.

Re: Tereza Mrdeza cheering thread

In the 1st round of WTA Bol 125k, Tereza beat a former #55 (now #346) Allertova 6:1, 6:0.

In the next one she'll face either Tena Lukas or the 8th seeded Laura Siegemund.

Re: Tereza Mrdeza cheering thread

Tereza is in the FO qualies draw (starting tomorrow) of course, and her first opponent doesn't seem unbeatable (K. Zhang, #185 IIRC), but the next one could already bring the top seeded Pera or a solid challenger player Alize Lim. Not the best of draws...

Good luck!

ma re Trnava 100k, R1:

J. Cepelova (wc) def. T. Mrdeza 5:7, 6:4, 7:6 (3)

Too bad about this one slipping away so closely, but still a good fight against a former top 50.

^ I just realized that this 16 y.o. WC is currently the world's best junior. Doesn't look THAT easy anymore.

Re: Tereza Mrdeza cheering thread

In QR1 of WTA Lugano Tereza got some luck with the draw, so instead of playing the top seeded Smitkova (#122), she ended up playing an alternate, Lister (#473). Good that she took this chance and goes through with a 6:1, 6:4 win.

The draw in the final quali round is actually quite good as well (at least on paper), as she'll now face the 16 y.o. WC Tauson, ranked 408, who took out 12th seeded Sramkova in the opening round. Hopefully she can make the most of this as well.

A QR1 loss is worth over $2,000, so it's not a bad deal even if she expected to lose
