SerenaSlam yeah, which will be good for both venus and serena, i say a finals apperance here will guarantee them staying 1 and 2 till atleast the end of wimbledon. i know that is going pretty far and thourgh 2 slams, but really its 2000 points, they only way they will loose that many is first round losses like jennifer did, but i HIGHLY, HIGHLY, doubt that will happen. all they need to do is consistenly win, and they should stay at the top the rest of the year!

venusfan WOW... the Williams sisters are just light years away from the Field and if Venus wins Australia the sisters will be at least 2000 points ahead of #3..

Sorry about the confusion on my previous post.
By bonus points I meant tthe quality points awarded according to the ranking of your opponent.

nlm It use to be the bonus points for any tournament after the 18th - now it's any tournament after the 17th (this has got to have had something to do with the cutdown of the schedule as well)

gmak eleni going backwards instead of forwards ?

Jan 19th, 2003 11:05 AM
DutchieGirl actually... the 18 tourneys rule is 17 tourneys now... it's best 17, not best 18!

Jan 19th, 2003 10:32 AM
nlm Not sure what you mean regarding bonus points. I'm assuming the 18 tournament rule, which imo has always peeved me off <g>

If you look at their projected rankings and what the above rankings are (on the top of this page) you'll find they're all on the same scale excluding 18th tournament rule. So in the end the top 20 pretty much stays the same when you don't include the extra points for the 18th tournament.

tassosp Just one little detail:
Their projected rankings do NOT take into account the bonus points...
Daniilidou for instance has already won quite a lot...
Jan 19th, 2003 06:16 AM
nlm According to Tennis Corner here are the projected rankings for January 27 thus far (remembering some players are still in the tournament). Also it doesn't include the points for the 4th rd wins to Venus, Justine, Daniela & Virginia.

* Players still active

Pos. Player Points
1 Serena Williams (USA) 6029 *
2 Venus Williams (USA) 4802 *
3 Kim Clijsters (BEL) 3403 *
4 Justine Henin-Hardenne (BEL) 3103 *
5 Jennifer Capriati (USA) 2790
6 Amelie Mauresmo (FRA) 2729
7 Daniela Hantuchova (SVK) 2696 *
8 Jelena Dokic (YUG) 2506
9 Monica Seles (USA) 2492
10 Lindsay Davenport (USA) 2171
11 Anastasia Myskina (RUS) 1944 *
12 Chanda Rubin (USA) 1927 *
13 Patty Schnyder (SUI) 1787
14 Magdalena Maleeva (BUL) 1669
15 Silvia Farina Elia (ITA) 1544
16 Anna Pistolesi (ISR) 1536.5
17 Martina Hingis (SUI) 1386
18 Nathalie Dechy (FRA) 1374
19 Elena Bovina (RUS) 1338 *
20 Alexandra Stevenson (USA) 1327.25
21 Elena Dementieva (RUS) 1316
22 Eleni Daniilidou (GRE) 1298.75 *
23 Tatiana Panova (RUS) 1259
24 Amanda Coetzer (RSA) 1221 *
25 Paola Suarez (ARG) 1191

Also the only way Rubin or Myskina would be able to sneak into the top 10 is whoever wins their Rd 16 clash goes on to the semi finals and that would most likely mean they'd have to knock of Clijsters first.
