It is Gerry Williams from the UK - i seen him in Melbourne when I was down for the Open on Monday... He is doing the International TV feed for Channel 7 here - so Australian's thankfully don't have to listen to him...
He is what you call ' an old fart' - completely past his prime and basically shit at his job... He is married to Joyce Williams - who was an old British player in the early 70's...
He commentates occasionally now on SKY with another old fart called Bill Threllfall - who is bad, but not nearly as bad...
I remember getting SKY for the first time as a 16 year old in 1991 when it was still very new and Gerry commentated on every tennis match they did - I used to keep the volume down low to avoid him....

|bello||I would have to agree about Gary WQilkinson, says some boring stufff, definately not the best commentator but i love John Barrett. I havent heard Betsy Nagelson for years but she was the best!!|

Thanks guys for the help.
Boiled Eggy is correct. Gerry Williams is a Brit. The coverage
we're getting is actually some Rupert Murdoch Sky/Fox
thing. Thailand is getting the same broadasting feed as
over here in Singapore.
Heard Gerry Williams during Wimbledon, and Davis Cup.

The Channel 7 Worldwide coverage probably gives rights for other broadcasters the rights to cover any of the showcourts.
Speaking of the ancient Aussie, Garry Wilkinson, he should have retired by now. He says some of the most stupid and senile things. The only thing going for him is his "professional" sounding voice...

|Experimentee||I think yours is a different coverage coz theres no Gerry Williams here, and we didnt even get coverage of Davenport vs Tulyaganova which I would have preferred seeing over whatever crap channel 7 was showing at the time!|

The closest name would be Gary Wilkinson, but he's not so much a tennis commentator as an assistant host to Bruce McAvaney and Johanna Griggs. His function is to help guide the expert commentators, as the "voice of the public". He gets the experts to talk about things that he thinks the people at home would want to know about.
But as far as I know, Channel 7 didn't show much more than highlights of the Davenport vs. Tulyaganova match, so maybe it wasn't him. But if it was him, then you now know why he was probably bleeding on about the "sad demise of Commonwealth nations." Oh, but then also, Gary Wilkinson probably wouldn't give two rats asses about the British Davis Cup team. He's strictly an Aussie man. So it's probably not even him anyway. LOL.

Question for people in Australia..?
I'm getting my coverage via the Channel 7 worldwide
broadcast over here. My question is why, and who
is this Gerry Williams guy doing tennis commentary?.
He is tiresome, and ruined the LD vs Iroda match.
I freakin don't care about the
British Davis Cup team!! And stop going on about
the sad demise of CommonWealth nations, and the
rise of what he smuggly hints as 3rd world countries;
like any place in Eastern Europe or Asia. Also didn't like
the comments about the lower seeded players, and don't
care for the constant whinging about the women's game.
He sounds quite fey too....how old is this guy? 70?
Does he look like Oscar Wilde or Quinten Crisp?
