Re: Mariana Duque Marino - Colombia's newest sensation

Actually, it's amazing that she reached the final here -- this isn't Juniors! Most players have a lot of trouble transitioning from Juniors to the regular Tour, but not Mariana. I'm really, really impressed with her silver medal in the Pan Am Games.

And you're right, she did shock Milagros! And I'm very, very happy for sweet Mili, winning the Gold medal.

Re: Mariana Duque Marino - Colombia's newest sensation

They also obtain SILVER on doubles (Mariana and Karen) that is pretty good for Colombia.
Colombia is not famous by having amazing tennis players, Mariana is one of the very rare stars that only appears in Colombia in a billion years, I hope she will be in the top 100 very soon. She deserves everything, and she have more than 10 years to validate it. She is amazing.

"Obviamente me puse nerviosa.

Colombian Tennis has obtained Silver medal in singles and doubles in the PanAmerican Games

Mariana Duque lose the GOLD against the venezuelan Milagros Sequera, while the same player and Karen CastilBlanco fell 6-2, 6-4 against the argentines Jorgelina Cravero and Betina Jozami.

In singles, the bogotan won the first set 6-3 and did not took advantage over the venezuelan, who imposed 7-6 (7-4 in tie break), 6-1 and won the GOLD.

The Mariana's tears were not only of sadness but rage with herself. Few minutes ago she lose her life's opportunity to obtain a GOLDEN medal and to win to arival in the WTA's Top 50.

Duque defeated clearly and without attenuants to the venezuelan Milagros Sequera 6-3 in the first set and 5-2 in the second, but the inexperience won and the fright of the exploit that she was managing to come below(down) and she lose the game incredibly.

"Obviously I got nervously. At that moment I was thinking about that I had a Top 50 almost defeated and really close to win a Golden medal for Colombia. On that moment I tie a little, I didn't maintain my play and she took advantage about this", Duque said, who was beaten 6-3, 6-7(4), 1-6.

Sequera, 26 years old, won the match from behind y revalidated the GOLD that she obtained 4 years ago in Santo Domingo, she lose the first set, after the colombian took advantage that Milagros right handed play was simple, and after that Duque moves Sequera from side to side with balls that Milagros could not reach, but that was useless because at the moment that she could defeat her, her moral fell down to the floor.

"I lacked of tranquillity and claws becaause there is where I have to kill the opponent and I lacked of experience to did it. Women don't like a slowly and short plays, and sometimes these works ans sometimes don't. Didn't work today and is a shame", Mariana Duque declared, that brings the silver medal number 13 to Colombia in the Panamerican games.

The Colsanitas's player broke the venezuelan service four times, who did it in five times.

Sequera said that Mariana has a promise future and confirmed that was saw on the court, and unsure venezuelan that saw how her rival was winning the match. "I won because my experience. There is no doubt that Mariana was over me ans she dinn't let me saw a single one, but I won because of tranquillity, by experience", the golden medalist expressed.

Colombia spent 20 years in order to obtain any medal in the Panamerican Games. The first medal was obtained by Adriana Isaza, in single, in Indianapolis 1987.

I agree with you, Mariana is going to be a star, not just for Colombia but for all of South America. She is only at the beginning of her career but we've already seen great signs of things to come from her. I'm really looking forward to watching her progress on the Tour in the next few years; I think she'lll be the next Gabriela Sabatini or Paola Suarez.

But I hope another tennis star will appear in Colombia before another *BILLION* years go by!
