Sharapova in the main draw
Sharapova is into the main draw once again, defeating number 4 seed Australian Alicia Molik.
Throughout the whole match, there was changes of momentums.
In the first set, it was Alicia who started well and Sharapova was just full of errors and double faults. With a 2-17 winners/unforced errors ratio and 0-6 aces/double faults ratio. Molik won the first set 6-0.
But in the second, it was the other way around as Sharapova found herself, hitting winners off her backhand, forehand, volleys and aces. She had a 19-4 winners/unforced errors and 6-1 aces/double faults. Sharapova won that set 6-0.
At the final set, both girls had their work cut out, and both stepped up their game to show a brilliant third set, both holding serve comfortably, at 6-5 to Molik, Sharapova was serving and found herself, 15-40 down, as Molik threw in everything she could to not let the match go to a deciding tie-break, but Sharapova once again stepped on the gear and she fired down 2 aces to get the game back to deuce. She won that game and took it to a tiebreak.
At the tiebreak, it was to be Molik to serve first and she hit a forehand winner down-the-line and won the first point to lead 1-0.
Sharapova serving and she did an amazing backhand down-the-line after she opened the court with a wide serve. and it was 1-1. Molik then attacked Sharapova's second serve and she was on her defensive from the first strike and Molik won it whe Sharapova netted a forehand. 2-1 to Molik.
Molik serving with a mini-break and she fired down an ace to the "T" followed with a serve and volley and won both points to lead 4-1.
Sharapova serves and she did well winning both points, the second point she won with a left handed lob and it was to be 4-3 to Molik.
Molik serves again and still looks unbreakable in the service department, serving another ace and forcing an error from Sharapova's forehand. 6-3 to Molik and she has 3 match points.
Sharapova serving and she needed to win both points and break Molik's next serve to level again and she did just that, serving and volleying for the first time, dropshotting and a ferocious drive-volley backhand crosscourt. 6-6, and Molik's serve will decide who will get a match point.
She didn't look too happy losing three points in a row to level the match back again and she double-faulted. 7-6 to Sharapova and now serving for the match for the first time.
Sharapova serves down an ace, but Molik challenged and it was...
IN!!! and was counted an ace and it was match to Sharapova 0-6 6-0 7-6(6)
She will now face Japanese Ai Sugiyama.
