Lightbulb The 2010 Tennis Poker US Open Series: Geewhiz is the winner!

The 2010 US Open Special Series!

Hereís the second edition of this special event, with a brand new format!
The prize for the winner will be decided later, Iíve started a debate in the scores thread and so far the propositions are 20 Kart-related whps, a date with Kuilli and double ranking points.

Letís see what this game is about in brief. In a regular Tennis Poker leg, you need to pick 5 players before the whole leg starts. There will be 2 major differences in this special event:

1) You will be asked to PICK ONLY ONE PLAYER FOR EACH OF THE 5 SERIES TOURNAMENTS
2) You will be allowed to REPLACE UP TO 4 PLAYERS AT THE US OPEN

Each week, before main draw play starts, you just need to pick one player. There will be a new deadline every week: this means you will be able to see the draw before choosing each of your 5 players. I will announce the card values after each tournament is completed, so you will also know the values of the cards youíve already chosen. You will be able to build your hand week by week and, if necessary, choose to change your original strategy.

Of course you canít pick a player twice, but you are allowed to post one or more back-up players in case of withdrawals. If you miss one or more deadlines and you end up with less than 5 players, you will be able to complete your hand at the US Open.

A few more notes: a tennis player can be picked by more than one poster in the same tournament. If 2 or more posters end up with the same combination at the end of the event (coming from the same set of players or not), there will be a tie-breaker. You are allowed to send picks by PM so that you can hide your strategy.

There will be plenty of time to understand how this game works in the upcoming weeks, as nothing will be decided till the US Open: as for now, just take a look at the Stanford main draw and choose ONE player according to your usual Tennis Poker strategies.

Entries for New Haven are now closed. This is the last tournament of the series and so the first phase of this contest is over. Don't forget to post your picks for the US Open, where you will be able to REPLACE up to 4 players. You can't pick a player twice or choose again a player you've replaced. If you missed one or more picks you are allowed to add new players, but you can't make more than 4 choices overall, so you must keep at least one of the Series picks.

US Open scores
In order to have a full deck represented in the same event, each US Open quarter will be considered as a 32-player draw and the 4 semifinalists will score an Ace, the 4 quarterfinalists K, and so on:
A: SF
K: QF
Q-J: 4th round
10-7: 3rd round
6-3: 2nd round
2: 1st round

Good luck everyone!

Kuilli's idea doesn't seem very popular.

A few more notes: a tennis player can be picked by more than one poster in the same tournament. If 2 or more posters end up with the same combination at the end of the event (coming from the same set of players or not), there will be a tie-breaker. At some stage in the competition I will ask you to send picks by PM so that you can hide your strategy.

Good luck!

If we pick a player for Stanford, and they then go on to get a better value in a later tournament, which value do they get?

e.g. if Dementieva scores a Q in Stanford, but wins New Haven, will she count as a Q or an A?

That's strange. I think people just don't want to see Kart win. That must be it! If I win, I welcome numerous presents and high amounts of prize money.

Doubling ranking points seems like a good idea (resembles the doubling of prize money).

My picks:

Stanford: Sharapova (back-up: Stosur)
San Diego (I'm on holls next week): Stosur (back-up: Wickmayer)

If only I was sure that my head on the door was a dream

Q: only the value scored in that particular tournament will be counted. Once you've picked a player for Stanford, her value will be definitive; but you may replace her at the US Open. I'm sorry I was not clear enough abotu this.

That's because everybody loves me .

If the winning prize is a date with Kuilli I expect everyone will be queueing up to lose the US open series ...

Good. That means I'll be winning the US open series. And I don't mind going out on a date by myself, as long as Tennis Poker is picking up the tab.

I expect you'll still find a way to lose it like you have all those gold medals .
