Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 6.

what a lovely result to be seen waking up in the morning!

i salute you guys, i don't know if i would have survived that scare.

i thought vika should edge it but not to that tightness, saving matchpoint.

good to gain that experience to climb back double break down and mp down. should serve her well in her game.

definitely playing with more conviction, gutsy play, actually playing from behind made her really focus. really, the matchpoint down was lucky. but vika capitalized the opportunity. running very well even against svitolina, quite impressive, very relentless. only if she can improve her FH a bit with more power and speed, and she usually gets stuck a bit when defending from her far left backhand side, hopefully fisette gonna fix those little issues. overall a good scalp, not sure she can play consistently match after match. but it shows she still has what it takes for a match or two as a top player.

next round, gonna be interesting if i am not fan. it's truly 50/50 depending on how drained up vika is or how tired. in the recent past, she didn't back up well enough after a long match. but luckily she has a day off so it might work. let's go girl!

She's still so passionate for the game and has so much belief. Her level is getting a lot better too (when you compare it to last years when she was making basic errors and had no control on any of her shots)

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 6.

She's supposed to be playing doubles right now but quite likely it will get rained out. For once I think it might be a good idea for her to bail on doubles here.

She also is not entered into Eastbourne so that means her only grass court tournament before Wimbledon is Mallorca. That strategy has not worked very well the past two years, but it seems clear by now that she is not going to take late wildcards so it is what it is.

My number one: Victoria Azarenka

ATP: Novak Djoković

Crazy Frenchies: Gilles Simon Alizé Cornet

Her ranking is still low but will rise if this level of play keeps up. I am finally feeling somewhat optimistic about her prospects! I did NOT see this coming after Miami, where things looked really bad and I was worried she might half-ass the clay season. Classic Vika barely even celebrated this win, but I hope she's enjoying these results and giving herself credit.
If she had the same fighting instincts against Sloane then she would have won in Madrid. But may be that loss has triggered her to be more aggressive and fight. She has to understand that nobody will roll over on court for you because you are a big name. U'll have to fight every opponent tooth and nail if you want to reach the top again. She might have just realized that after getting a lucky break on that match point After that point she became a different player...the old fiery passionate Vika Elina couldnt stand that kind of intense onslaught suddenly out of nowhere She ripped Elina's serves apart and attacked the net like no tomorrow!!

In Miami, she was made to play the next day immediately after that big fight with Pome. So it was expected. She was flat in that first set and was 'just' missing the mark in the second set. It all started to pickup in Monterrey with her nice and cushy pigeons Pavs and Kerber paving the path for her!

She needs to work harder on court than in practice if she has to win. She might have had that epiphany after yesterday hopefully!!

I don't know why a possible match against Garbine scares me so much lol

Great match against Svito... Had to hit consistently well placed shots to get past by her unlike her previous match. I saw some high quality tennis

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 6.

Can we talk about her attitude though? Vika was yelling out of frustration already by the THIRD game of the match, she gives her opponents way too much life with that shit. It needs to stop. A minor critique in a gutsy win.

I was really in disbelief that this match went her way. That kinda never happens for Vika, didn't happen for her a lot at her peak either.

Let's hope she can back this victory up now and make a decent deep run. Muguruza WILL peak if they meet and Collins will be tough in these muddy conditions too.

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 6.

She basically destroyed Elina's 2nd serves yesterday...that's what won her the match. Elina just won like 4 points on her 2nd serve in entire match.

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 6.

The schedule for tomorrow is gonna be wretched. Vika should have an advantage on whoever comes out of the Collins/Muguruza match but she might have to play two doubles match before her singles R3 in the evening...

This is where the doubles might actually hamper her unfortunately, I kinda want them to tank the first doubles match.

EDIT: the doubles matches are scheduled after Vika's singles match. So she will have somewhat of an advantage

As far as I can see, she has singles, then two doubles matches in a row.

I agree once her comeback began in the third I could feel the tide changing and knew in the back of my head that this felt like the stars had aligned for her but I kept convincing myself that she was going to manage to fuck it up. Made for very dramatic tense exciting watching though!

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 6.

And yeah there is some rule that players are never allowed to play doubles before singles in the same day. Sometimes they have to even reschedule finals if one player makes both and the doubles was slated to be first.

There's no way she'll actually play two doubles matches in one day I imagine (unless MAYBE if she loses singles I suppose and even then Barty would probably have to lose too). They would either tank or withdraw or get the tournament to postpone the second one.

Hopefully Collins and Mug tire each other out Vika needs this more than those gurls... So Also am guessing both Ash and Vika are gonna tank the doubles!!
