Australian Open 2016: Keep the Winning Streak Going

Figured I'd create a thread for the AO since the Brisbane one went well and the draw is coming out .

Good luck Vika .

Re: Australian Open 2016: Keep the Winning Streak Going

She avoided the Reehanna section THANK GOD.

R1: Van Uytvanck
R2: Crawford/Kovinic

Seeds in her quarter include [18] SVITOLINA, [3] MUGURUZA, and [7] KERBER. Obviously not easy but also just about the best draw she could have asked for .

My number one: Victoria Azarenka

ATP: Novak Djoković

Thanks for that it makes it much easier to see!! .

Is it just me or is Vika's draw this year harder than the one she had last year even though she is ranked higher now?

It just seems very tough..Crawford won't be as nervous in R2 of a tournament as she was SF, Muguruza could hit her off the court if she is fit enough. Back-to-back Kerber and Halep matches will probably tire Vika out and if Serena gets to the final she will just be Serena .

Add to that Crawford and Kerber probably wanting revenge for their Brisbane losses .

Let's worry about Van Uytvanck for now . That one should be easy though.

Re: Australian Open 2016: Keep the Winning Streak Going

Vika got lucky avoiding Rena's section. By winning Brisbane she had done a great favour to herself A great draw as she manages to avoid her arch rival/s until the final all others are beatable!! Let's take it one match at a time folks

AVU is a good player. Let's see how Vika handles her. Wim should be able to give her some tips!!

2012 & 2013 AO Champion - Winnerenka

2012 & 2013 USO Finalist - Chokerenka

Re: Australian Open 2016: Keep the Winning Streak Going

I like Vika's draw. No Serena or Sharapova, Petra or Cibulkova. Muguruza will be tough but since they never played each other it's difficult to predict the outcome. And Garbi has just played one match this year, she might be beaten by Lucic-Baroni or Garcia.

But yeah, 4th round is still far away, lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Re: Australian Open 2016: Keep the Winning Streak Going

I love this draw. Its a good balance of winnable but not too easy. Svitolina is a perfect third round for her if she has to go on and play muguruza and kerber back to back. She gets a lot of balls back but can't really hurt vika if she is playing well. Vika seems so relaxed and happy I really think she will do well here.

Re: Australian Open 2016: Keep the Winning Streak Going

Pretty good draw, hope she can make it to the final. I know we're projecting Kerber in QF and Halep in SF. But, Kerber has never reached QF here and Halep has been horrible in her Aussie Open Quarterfinals the previous years.

And I also have this strange feeling that we won't see Serena in the Final. She has a pretty abysmal record when drawn in the same quarter as Sharapova in the past years (for example R1 loss to Razzano and R2 loss to Muguruza in FO).

Link to a 10-minute video of Vika's press conference on Periscope (I suppose it will be added to the AO website later):
