Let me introduce you to my favourite Belarusian kid (along with Ulyana
Yuliya is 15 (born April 24, 2000), she's from Minsk.
This week and last week, she's been playing her very first pro events at the 2 Minsk 25Ks, where she was given QWCs.
And she actually managed to win some matches there!
Beat Hanna Kryvatulava, 3-6 6-3 6-4 in Q1 last week, before falling in Q2 to (16)Ganna Poznikhirenko, 1 & 1
Ganna went on to make the final in the end. This week, she beat Vasilisa Aponasenko, 4 & 4 in Q1, and (9)Alena Tarasova (WTA 620, CHR 411), 6-4 7-5 in Q2
before falling in Q3 to (5)Sviatlana Pirazhenka, 4 & 1.
Must have been a great experience for her, especially as Vika was hanging around there last week!
Other than that, she had a great March in Uzbekistan this week, making the final at G2 Tashkent ITF Juniors (as a LL
), and the semis at G3 Namangan International Junior Tournament the week after (as a qualifier this time
She got wins over Valeriya Yuschenko (#105), 1 & 1 and Ekaterina Kazionova (#102), 2 & 3 in Tashkent, before falling to top seed Anastasia Gasanova (#51), 2 & 4 in the final; in Namangan she beat top seed Berfu Cengiz (#112), 6-0 2-6 6-3 in QF before falling to the eventual champion Anastasia Potapova in SF, 7-5 2-6 1-6.
So she is able to snatch some great wins, but is still struggling with consistency so far.
I think she has a potentially very good game, with her powerful, flat groundies and a serve that could become a real weapon; she's quite tall already and will definitely be a big girl. She still is very skinny but that's not uncommon for a girl her age.
Here are some clips of her SF (where she thrashed Sofya Lansere) and final (lost a very close match to Sofya Trescheva) matches at G14 Junior Kremlin Cup last November
She reached a CHR of 346 in April, this week she's #356.
