FINAL!!!

Chantawannop d. William 7-5, (8) 6-7, 7-6 (11)

Chant. won the final 3 games of the first set to take it, breaking in the penultimate game.

Chant. was serving for the match at 5-4 in the second, only to have Wm. break. Both held serve to take it to the tiebreak, during which Wm. saved two match points, and took the set on her second set point.

Each player broke their opponent twice in the final set, with Chant. breaking while down 3-5, with Wm. serving for the match, in a 23 minute game that had 11 deuces. Chant. then held serve to even the set at 5 all, with both players subsequently holding serve to take the final set to a tiebreak.

Wm. had 4 match points during the tiebreak, two coming on her own serve, but was thwarted by the tenacity of Chant. Chant. had 3 match points during the decider, with the match ending after a 33 stroke rally which concluded with Chant. smashing a backhand winner that was JUST inside the left-side line.

For her efforts, Chantawannop takes home $85K and a Volvo sedan. William departs with $40K and a moped.

However - the tournament organizers realized they had spent too much on appearance fees, drawing in such big names to their event, that all they could offer Chantawannop was $50 in Wal-Mart discounts and a bicycle. William received $15 worth of bubble-gum.
